Hi Rain Support

I've managed to get my Rain 5G device all delivered. However I'm struggling to get this activated. I already logged a support ticket but no response yet.

Please can you assist

Hi Lino,

please drop me a DM/PM with your email address linked to your rain profile for assistance.

...and how is it? Are you on premium or standard package?

I'm not sure to be honest, I'm on the premium package so depending on the time of day:

8pm at night speed test download at 283 Mbps
4am speed test download at a whopping massive 30 Mbps (no comment)
8am speed test download at 330 Mbps

Downloads tend to pause halfway then start up again!

no comment indeed about that 30Mbps,
how are the upload speeds?

Lets hope the 30mbps is just an outlier.
Otherwise, those other speeds are very good.

A vpn may be needed to get the full speed when downloading.

What router did they give you? Is it an indoor or outdoors setup?

Upload speeds are always at about 18 Mbps
I don't mind the slow speed while I'm sleeping, would be nice to have decent internet while I'm awake for a change.

Rain Router:
Huawei 5G Outdoor CPE
Model: N5368X

I'll try the VPN thing, if I can use this solution with my Afrihost MTN Fixed LTE I'll be happy!

@rain_mobile
Between messaging you and talking to one of your executives, thanks for getting me up and running so promptly after receiving the device.

interesting. I am in cape town and fall in the 5g coverage but not sure if its the standalone sites. not the areas listed in the link.

I'm tempted but being put off by a lot of complaints of instability and degradation of service within a few months.

100%. good point, what about those areas not listed in the article, but are covered in the 5G "scope"

other sites are probably not standalone. i.e. the others will offer 4g as well or be shared with Vodacom?

So flippen tempted to take out the 5g premium...I'm on adsl with Telkom 9.5 down, 0.8 up, ping about 19ms..

now whilst telkoms service has been k@k, the line has been stable as can be. can think of 2-3 times ive have line issues in past 2 years or so.

so even if there are line speed issues it will be still 3-4 times better than what I have now. for about R150 extra.

I'm just worried about the connectivity issues. working from home so cant afford to be spending my day trying to sort out issues. what to do...what to do...

Out of interest, which network ID does the rain in CT use, 65573?

Should be in the system stats page (PLMN)

Hi, the 30mbps was entirely our fault, we have a maintenance window from midnight to 5 am - hopefully when you guys are asleep . On this day we were doing a SW patch. Apologies. Let me know if it happens again.
