RAIN LTE-A: Speedtests

Care to name a single South African ISP that has folded because of network congestion?

Openweb, nope
Mweb, nope
Afrihost, nope
Cell C, nope
Crystalweb, nope
etc
etc

So because not to date...that's a reason to project into the future?
Sh*t if the whole world thought like that we'd still be in the dark ages.

Competition and market forces always dominate eventually....Economics 101.

Telkom for 1.
Do you remember the price of international calls in the 90s?early2000s?
Data speeds and prices?

Probably not with retorts such as

Telkom has "ceased to operate"?

Is shifting goalposts in a discussion your hobby? Cos you're damn good at it...

In a discussion about an SA ISP we've gone from network congestion has caused many companies to fail, to network congestion will cause companies to maybe fail in the future, to competition has brought down Telkom's prices. All in the space of 3 posts, impressive.

Obtuse and unable to see the larger discussion at hand - you clearly suffer badly from.
Your obsession to "try" and prove a point as well.

Try studying some economics and come back in 10 years.

Oh I can see exactly where you're trying to lead this convo to save face and your bold claim of a "legal and IT background. 30+ years for what it's worth."

Except your statement that "many" South African ISP's have "ceased to operate" due to "network congestion" is demonstrably false. Trying to steer the discussion to something that is true is an old tactic, you were talking nonsense, plain and simple.

But to cut back to your original post, no they are not going to give you a full refund, and no they are not going to stop operating.

Oh and have some ambition, a 2mbps LTE-A(even though RAIN is not LTE-A, but that's another argument, with RAIN though, not you) is dreadful. I'd also be screaming from the rooftops if I got that.

The entire RAIN fixed LTE product is simply there as a thin veneer to enable Vodacom to get access to the spectrum they lost when they weren't allowed to buy iBurst. IMHO of course.

Not in the slightest. I'd never refer to you as Sir as you did me, smacks of limited conversation skills.
Bold? No just the truth.
So now you an expert on my background as well, what next??!

More arrogance.
You work for Afrihost or sit on their board of directors?
Get a life.

Yes arguing till you blue in the face does seem to be your modus operandi from my brief but boring intercourse with yourself.

Lastly....stop thread jacking.
Take it offline if you must.

I never referred to you as sir... Seems you didn't quite understand that post, it was said in jest...

A bold statement is not necessarily untrue, it can however paint you in a corner when that statement is used to back up an untruth. Nor did I ever claim your background was untrue.

I've turned 5 posts in your direction, none of which are adversarial, "blue in the face" is a slight projection me thinks.

Well I did return to the thread topic, it is you now playing the man and not the ball with your insults.

So i use the huawei 315-22d, the first is on the 2600mhz, second on 1800mhz but the ping times are always above 50ms which sucks...

When I first received my modem, I had reasonable speeds of about 10 mb/s. However, gradually over the last six months, the speed has gotten slower and slower. I can get about 1 to 4 mb/s around 3 AM. During the day, it's less than 1 mb/s. This morning I'm struggling again to get 10 kb/s. I can't even browse a web page. My cell phone on the other hand at the same time is getting above 30 Mb/s.

I've reported to them many times and it seems RAIN does not care. They close each incident without response.

I'm really disappointed. I'd advise others to not waste their time with this company.

Speeds were unbearable today. It was so slow I couldn't even load a speedtest. Faceboob, MyBB, nothing would load properly. Congestion is the word of the day.

I was able to do so now and got an acceptable result, but this entire day was horrendous.

Well its even better during the day when I am not at home.

This morning:

For me that is a clear indication that the tower I am connecting to is over subbed.

Could be tower congestion. it could also be extra noise or electricals running at that time of night that normally don't run during the morning or night. Example. Neighbours not fully grounded outdoor lights around his house next to yours. Can create a buzzing noise on electricals within 10meters. Could be street lights too. Maybe other users wifi or devices extra noise in the 802.11N range (N tech doesn't like too many routers in the same zone, maybe change the channel of your wifi see if that helps or are you connected via network cable to the LTE modem)

A buddy of mine had people working in the main road every night for 3months. They doing roadworks and stomping and metals and concrete just down the road from him. His signal dropped from 20mbit to around 3-4mbit when they start. - not sure if it's electrical noise or if they just creating obstruction or line of site or deflection of signal.. but during the day he is fine. (he timed it to their workings ... if they work on saturday for 3 hours.. same correlation to his speed issues)

in a nutshell. Environment can also affect speeds. (moving your LTE 5cm to left or right ... or forward 5cm can make a difference)
