Hi Guys , Quick question iam thinking of getting two rain sim cards.
However i will only use the one and start using the second in december will the second sim card have the free 7 days unlimited data.? NB: i will not open the second sim card now and only in December. Will the 7 day free data kick in day of delivery or when i insert the sim in my phone.

Hi @Ameer Cader . The 7 days free data kicks in when the sim card has been activated on the Rain network. Activation normally occurs within 24 hrs of delivery. Irrespective of whether the sim card is in use, the 7 days free data will kick in immediately after sim activation.

Just for those that were unsure. If you have a Telkom B315s-936 you should be able to force band 41 (2500Mhz) which will actually connect to B38 (2600MHz).

Band 41 is actually a range between 2496 – 2690 MHz so that covers the 2600MHz that Rain is running. :)

When an active spend limit is reached & unlimited off peak is active, will it still Rain during off peak? Or will connection then be turned off as spend limit on SIM has been reached?

I have unlimited off peak & spend limit of R250. Spend limit has not been reached. I'm streaming an game of oval ball sport & it's after 6pm.

I have no idea of whether or not I will be charged for this off peak rain.

You will still have internet in the off peak period 11:00pm - 6:00pm.

I think I've got it.

My unlimited data days ended 17/11. This is the first billed month (pro rata). Spend limit is on R250.

Rain are scoring from me since I thought the unlimited off peak (19 hours) would be charged pro rata after 17/11 & I would not be billed a full month of unlimited off peak (R250). And that miraculously, that there would be no peak hours data connection.

What's happened now, is that I will be continued to be billed for peak use until spend limit (R250) is reached. And even though I'm not using a full month of unlimited off peak, I will continue to be billed for peak use until spend limit has been reached.

Lesson:
During your first month of use after free unlimited data days have ended, the spend limit needs to be set lower than the R250 required for a full month of unlimited off peak. This is also why the billing system allows for the dashboard to have a spend limit of less than R250 during first month, when there is not a full month of unlimited off peak, due to free unlimited data days at the start of service.

Then, during the next calendar month being the first full month of unlimited off peak, it is not possible to set the spend limit below R250 when unlimited data days has been enabled.

This may also be complete & utter rubbish I have just managed to come up with!

Which I assume is a good thing?

Will test it out a bit some time this week :)

Did you not try contacting Rain directly for a replacement sim?

I did what you suggested and was called today by an Afrihost rep because my issue was forwarded to them by RAIN support.

They told me that, miraculously, I can get a RAIN replacement sim but if I want to cancel my Cell C package that they advised me to sign up for, then I will have to pay a R999 cancellation fee. This fee was not mentioned to me when I signed up for the Cell C package in person at Afrihost Sandton. I also did not receive anything besides a sim which makes this fee seem really unnecessary.

Needless to say, I gave Afrihost notice to cancel all my data packages that I currently have with them (4).

I find it unacceptable that they lied about the sim replacement issue initially but did an about face when RAIN tackled them about it. Also, this R999 fee is a total scam.

rain is awesome!

471 GB done this month, did the calculation if i was using MTN would have cost me 14K in data, ALL completely artificial.

best deal currently in the market, nothing even black friday deals come close to this.

dont SA cell operators understand how much they are holding back the economy with their artificially expensive prices.
