Wow just got SIM. Was using my MTN and downloading and watching youtube never game me a problem over the past months but rain is night and day difference. Connection download speed go up and down every few seconds. Sites can't completely load. Websites frequently half load and stop. You are watching a youtube video then it completely stops. It's like the only thing it's useful for is downloads with a download manager that can autoresume where consistent download speed isn't a requirement
I'm in the middle of a heave residential coverage area so I guess the tower has too much connections to deal with but obviously the service definitively doesn't take into account QoS.

Speed tests are obviously not a good indication of how this service will be. one actually has to have consistent speed or you cannot use the internet like you normally while in front of it.

Mobile experience will always be coverage dependant. Rain is currently the best for me and runs consistently, but I'm not surprised when the next person has a totally opposite experience

Does rain also run on the 2500Mhz frequency ? My b315 happily connects to that with way better speeds than my b618 on 2600Mhz.

Nothing because if you don't have coverage you won't get service so there will be no usage. As long as you have signal you are good to go because Rain does not roam on any other networks so if they don't have coverage you won't have signal. :)
so then rain is more a fixed lte type solution?

the coverage map seems quite light in jhb

My house was broke into and one of the items stolen was my Huawei modem and Afrihost Rain LTE sim. Sadly, Afrihost told me that I cannot get a replacement sim because Rain have stopped all activations on their network.

I was advised to signup for a Cell C package. Not sure what’s going on with Rain but it was pain having to see all the data I had left on my account go to waste.

Did you not try contacting Rain directly for a replacement sim?

Ordered a sim. A day later it was at my door. It was activated in less than an hour. Very impressed. Just a question for the community here though: If I have the unlimited off peak plan and only intend to use it off-peak do I have to turn my LTE router off during the on-peak times so that it does not use any peak data? Or if I am only signed up to unlimited, will the internet just stop working during the on-peak hours?

Set a R250 limit

It will just now work during peak then

Just noticed that the R250 unlimited mobile data plan has not been capped today. Is our beloved Rain Mobile dishing us some special spoiler?

Let's just keep observing. Knowing Rain to be the telecoms disruptor that they've been, one wouldn't be surprised to see them change the peak hours to 8pm-11pm. This has been the case for the last two days. Got a feeling these are the first steps of a journey towards absolute unlimited mobile data.

Shhhhhhhh bro shhhhhhhh

Hahaha! @kianm you will be surprised that we are righful beneficiaries of a new value proposition from Rain Mobile. You can only expect such ground breaking propositions from an innovative mobile operator that will pleasantly save us from the slow fibre rollout by giving us "fibre in the sky" when they launch their 5G network next year.

Restart your router by rebooting it. Switch it off and on.

Was wondering why no one around here was thanking Rain for the extra 2 hours of peak time data that has befallen them. Moving in the right direction rain. Kudos!

You couldn't have said it better @phly. How best can we convey our gratitude?. Perhaps a MYBROADBAND coverage of our appreciation would suffice. Anyone knows how to get stories covered on the MYBROADBAND newsletter?
