So here's my effort to congrats Rain on making my connection sort of useable again:

I've been giving Rain a lot of crap since January when my connection essentially went from a constant 20mbps to sub 0.1mbps... eventually last month, someone decided to force my connection to a tower 4km away as the nearest tower 300 metres away from me, are extremely congested.

Still not as fast as it used to be, but at least I can fairly reliably do some basic browsing now and push code to my Github Repo as I work from home.

They are however currently trenching our neighbourhood to bring us Fibre.... I will however keep my Rain sim-card as a backup.

Still not something I can confidently recommend to my peers, especially in our area where there's not too many towers.

Rain customer care did it for me..

They told me the tower it I was connecting to at that time (physically nearest to me) were extremely heavily utilised and then they made my router connect to another tower with less traffic, 4.8km away.....
Getting much better performance now.

The product is specifically for phones, that's what makes this a GREAT product. The experience will explain it a lot better than I possibly can, @Ramiro16 give it a try and you will understand why the product is great. ^^

The great part for me is the full speed all day long. I did not like the previous 24/7 offering because of the 10mbps speed cap.

As far as those wanting to try it out, take note of the below points:

  • This really is a phone only sim. It did not work in both my Huawei and tp link router
  • vpn services I tried did not work, I actually ended up with less speed and hence could not bypass the streaming quality restrictions on services like netflix, twitch, prime and youtube
  • Hotspot functionality is disabled
Final verdict:
If you just want a sim for exclusive mobile usage with 360p stream then go try it out.
There might be ways to bypass the above restriction but it will most likely involve complex setups that the average user will not be comfortable with.

Or if you are a luck user like me, most of the content I consume is fortunately not being throttled.
Its just a matter of me casting it to my device of choice

@rain_mobile - "eSim on hold right now" doesn't really cut it any more. Please get your powers-that-be to explain the lies told in Jan 2019

We had some unforeseen issues with that during development and that's why we did not launch it then. However, we are still looking into the matter and that's why we have put "eSim on hold" at the moment.

Honest question, what is the point of esim when the majority of the devices with a rain sim inserted do not support it? And probably won’t in the medium term.

Well, all iPhones from 11 onwards has it. So is the latest Samsung, Huawei, etc. So there's a market out there. By the time Rain wakes up, it will be too late
