Rain shows impressive growth in subscribers

Well we'll see. After our fibre issue I ordered Rain as a backup (replacement?). Hopefully we get it before the d d of the week.

If I don't see in excess of 50mbps it's going straight back.
Unless there are only 5 of you connecting to your nearest tower, you are going to be sorely disappointed. Currently in high volume areas desperate to connect to the net (where there is no fibre), we measure our speeds in kbs. 2020 and we are running at 1990 dial-up speeds...

We have fibre, the last three months have been plagued with disconnects, DNS server issues and the latest being this metrofibre bullshit which took them days to fix.

So screw it. We do live in a densely populated are though :/

I remember when I got Telkom's LTE package I had speeds of 20mbps. Then they launched their uncapped deal and early the next month my speeds dropped to 1-2. Never recovered.

Luckily Rain will be easier to cancel than Telkom should that happen.

I think the issues people are experiencing must be localised to the areas they are in.

My experience using Rain 4G has been pretty good. An occassional slowdown and a couple of outages but otherwise it has been decent. I've been working from home since the lockdown started so I'm connected to the office via VPN and using Teams throughout the day as well as streaming Netflix and sharing the connection with about 10 other users in the house. Still get 10+Mbps up and down when running speed tests.
Total combined downtime since April is probably not more than 2 or 3 hours.
Not bad for R479 per month especially if fibre is not available in the area.

RAIN seems to be SCAM!!!!!. They always show that you have coverage and after you pay and receive the sim you find out that there is no or very poor coverage. If you have coverage it only work for 10% of the day. DON'T even try to phone support, it does not exist. This is how they get their money. By the time you realize its a failure, you already made 2 or 3 payments before you cancel. They don't care about service, they just want your money because they don't care if you cancel as there is dozens new customers to catch. This happened to 5 people I personally know.

It's a network lottery and sadly some of us have lost; I got a slow network at least. I'll stay with them because I frankly have no choice but also because I like their model. We NEED them to succeed.
