Rain SIM in iPhone 5

My pocket router has just died and I am on only half salary, so buying a new one is out of the question. But, I do have an iPhone 5 which is just lying in my desk drawer. Can I purpose this as a pocket router with my Rain SIM?

Yeah, why not?
The hardware in iPhones cover most of the applicable network bands.
Also, even the iPhone 5 has hotspot functionality.

It would seem that Rain does not like us using their SIM in an iPhone..... In the Settings, my iPhone shows "Personal Hotspot", whereas the old iPhone does not show that option.
The Rain SIM works well in my wife's dual SIM Samsung J8, but that does not help when I am on the road.... And FNB data is very pricey.

FIXED!!! Had to go to Rain network settings and at the bottom was Hotspot settings. Added some bumf and the hotspot settings came alive. I am sending this comment through my iPhone 5 hotspot!!

yip, dont forget the APN settings if it gives issues,
did something similar yesterday with my 2 android phones.
wouldnt work until you manually enter the APN settings.

Once the phone had the Rain SIM in it, it took a reboot to recognise the SIM. Then Rain sent a message to download the APN settings, so that was done by clicking the link they sent. Luckily the iPhone 5 is an LTE phone.
