Rain to suspend fixed LTE sales

Rain announced it will suspend the sales of its fixed LTE products through partnered ISPs due to capacity constraints on its network.

Partnered ISPs have been told to temporarily stop sales of Rain fixed LTE products from 1 November 2018.

Wasn't 1 November the date on which the extra data that some early adopters are still getting would be reconsidered?

They would either continue with it, or discontinue it.

This development makes it clear that it will probably be the latter.

It was, but if you downgraded at any time prior to that date you lost the extra data anyway. I upgraded twice, kept the data, but then downgraded twice and lost the extra data. :(

FWIW the recent network issues with upload speeds resulted in my downgrade from the 22GB to a 25GB product. I then took up the Cell C 200GB product as my primary one and have the Rain as the backup. The Cell C signal in my area is just a strong and while not as fast as Rain, its a LOT cheaper. I'm paying less now for 2 providers than I was paying for the single 220GB Rain product and am getting 5GB more.

I do wish they'd hurry up with the fibre round these parts.

This is surprising me wow. Rain deems is better to stop selling their own products to the public because of capacity issues but allows Vodacom customers to freely roaming their network.

Something tells me that Rain never wanted fixed LTE sales anymore after the very "exclusive" roaming deal it struck with Vodacom. I would place a bet that temporary will eventually turn in to permanent and fixed will fall away only offering Mobile data and then Vodacom customers to roam on their network.

How much money did Vodacom throw at Rain I wonder. :erm:

Is it raining [sustainable] promises again?

Access to LTE-A on the Rain network, with streamlined provisioning of service from Internet Solutions, is an attractive proposition for ISPs that have identified LTE-A as a driver of business sustainability, through an expanded product portfolio and infrastructure savings,” said Murray Steyn, executive head of wholesale at IS.

Rain promises to provide consumers with increased connectivity at affordable prices, and has rolled out 750 LTE-A sites to date

Today, Rain launches a new-generation 4G network that will redefine how South Africans use mobile data. It is the only mobile network that focuses solely on data offerings, thereby significantly reducing the price for consumers to connect to the Internet,” said Rain.

Was just about to order another package for my business today, now I'm suddenly doubting whether I should.
What's a man to do these days who needs around 100 GB per month with ADSL and fibre not being options?

Thanks, forgot about them, will check it out. If decent I'll sommer cancel my home Rain and get CellC for the house as well.

Avoid Axxess, go with WebAfrica. I think those people at Axxess are high most of the time. Haven't a clue about what a customer is.

Go for CellC LTE-A, much cheaper than Rain.

Yeah, I almost got 2 more Rain accounts for the office. Going CellC now with Axxess.

Seams I have no CellC LTE coverage in my area according to the axxess website. Weird since I recall having very decent 4G / LTE speeds a year or 3 ago when I used a CellC sim card for a while in a iPad.

Maybe the fixed LTE is different.
