I'm trying to install 2x 512mb DDR2 modules, alongside my 2x1GB set, but i can't get it to fit all the way in. One end slots in nicely but the other sticks out and won't go in, kind of like a see-saw!

any ideas?

Get a hammer and bash them in.

If that doesn't work, turn them around.

Try puting it in the oven, it might shrink which might be better than cutting it

Those black thingies on the side of the RAM stick, those might cause the thing to jam and get stuck. I suggest you scrape them off.

Give it to your dog to chew a bit, that will sort out the size.

Put it in the middle of the N2, or M5, or which major highway is near you. Then watch its size change to neatly fit in to your PC.

Ye turning them around sounds like the problem. I also had this feeling putting in some DDR2 lately, it turned out you just had to push a little harder. Depends how much force you're using already.

Those "black thingies" are facing in the same direction as the other RAM chips, so can it still be in the wrong direction?

I'm off to Mica....will report back!

anathema - it can't be the wrong RAM as it was installed last year, I removed them when upgrading to DDR2-800 modules (so as not to slow down the DDR2-800 chips to 667)

Are all the slots on the board for 667/800? I have a board at home that can take 400's and 667's (or some weird combo) and I know my 1st upgrade threw me a bit

Push VERY hard. ;)

wow, okes, :D...

what you should try and do is get a hammer, cover it with a cloth(the metal end, and the cloth is there to not cause damage ;) ) and then begin to 'tap' the modules in... just increase the force of the hammering until they fit. it's really that simple

Don't "think" it will fit, "know" it will fit. We can only show you the RAM slots; you're the one that has to get the chips in there.

Thanks, just scared I might split my mobo in two while unleashing the "force":P
