I'm having a strange problem with my XP gaming rig. The specs:

Core 2 Duo Q8200 @2.3GHz
DG35EC main board
5GB mixed modules of 667Mhz DDR2
GTS450 GPU
400W PSU

Randomly after an hour, sometimes two, the graphics goes weird. Textures going some weird triangular spikey looking strange color weird followed by the system locking up two seconds later. Reboot, game some more until it happens again.

It happens sudden, no warning signs, no drop in frame rate or anything. Just sudden textures going **** for a second or two and then freeze.

If I'm quick enough, I can alt-tab out the game and alt-tab back in and everything is fine again until it happens again.

Under load, the CPU is at 49.C and the GPU at 58.C and never exceeds 60.C no matter how hard I push it.

I've tried other driver versions with no positive effect.
Any ideas?

It looks to me a hardware fault, possibly poor BGA solder joints.
Try GPU on other PC, as the last resort - reflow, if doesn't help a time for an upgrade.

Time for an upgrade. A base Pentium G4560 system from scratch will be better than what you have right now.

Yeah, I'd rather not upgrade this rig, though. This rig is purely for XP era gaming, I've got another rig for modern games.
I'll see if I can find another 400 series graphics card and look at a new PSU.

Thanks for the help, gents. :)
