I've been using MyWireless for a few days now, and in general it works very well and I'm very happy with it so far, but I seem to be having a problem that every now and again the computer just locks up solid while using it. This happens on my own Win2K system as well as a totally different WinXP system at work. Has anyone else had any problems like this?

Yup, I have exactly the same problem when using the USB connection with my WinXP systm. Thought it was my eMule client (as it runs most of the time) but it's not. I use PPPoE mostly and things are nice & stable, but if I need to use the USB connection with my WinXP box, I notice that the machine has crashed about 3-6 hours after I establish a connection.

I use the USB connection and have been connected 24/7 for 4 weeks now. Never had an issue. I'd expect a blue screen when using a badly written USB device driver, but not a complete system lockup.

So far I've mainly been trying to determine if the problem is with my system or with the modem itself. I've now tried installing it on another computer, and it has been running perfectly for nearly 24 hours now - so it seems the problem may have something to do with my setup, e.g. with my motherboard or perhaps a software/driver config problem or something, not sure. So I've tried it on four different PCs now, two do the hanging thing and two don't.

Sounds like it could very well be a buggy USB controller. The Intel PIIX4 was renowned for this.

In my attempt to see if i could improve packet losses, I decided to up grade to firmware 4.2.1.8.

I don't know if it is related, but since then, my screen just freezes for about 60 secs everytime I try and open something.

Operating on win2k

Anyone else upgraded and had the same problem?

Tonight I will reinstall the version that came with the modem and see what happens.

This could be related to the hyperthreading issue which is not just a problem with sentechs modem, i recently had the exact same issue with an el-cheapo USB analogue modem, as soon as the modem was accessed by the OS the machine would completely freak out.

Sounds like the hyperthreading problem

What processors do these computers have ?

The computer has been working fine for the last 3-4 months with mywireless, but suddenly change the firmware to 4.2.1.8 and voila...freeze for about 60 seconds at a time.

Its and old P2 - 350 Intel.

By the way, excuse the ignorance, but what is hyperthreading and how do I get rid of it. Is it possible to disable?

maybe it's the start of winter...

Help save the bandwidth. Decent download speeds for TheRodent! Stop downloading now!!!
