Being new to X360 I must give some praise to the overall design of this mini-beast - It has successfully put off my desire to upgrade my aging PC. So long as I have my PC running Guild Wars well enough, my other gaming thirsts can be quenched by the console now... I can save for an HDTV now instead, the EDTV I have is ok, but I want more eye candy
(Argh... Upgrading, its never ending, is it?)
Anyhow to the Q's: With regards to networking the XBox up to our home network: I stumbled on a personal oversight upon opening the box - 1 usb port, and we bought a second wired controller. I kinda dismissed it and thought I'd just run a wired network... However, being the lazy shyte that I am, I'd really like to go wired the more I think of it.
So - I have heard/seen that USB hubs work fine on the 360 but the tests were only done with extra wired controllers attached. I assume other supported USB devices would work ok too, not so?
I have also read that there are USB wireless network cards that work on the XBox. I haven't found a list as yet. My thinking is that if a normal product (around R300) works, why should I go and get the official MS wireless adaptor (+-R1k?)? I just want to know if anyone has gone this route and, if so, what specific make and model USB adaptor they used.
My other query is probably not one I'll get an answer to, so consider it a minor gripe. Their CDDB, is it a new, or inhouse database?
From my observation seems a mainly commercial database (which hints at it being new, IMO). I was quite excited about ripping as many of my most frequently listened to albums as possible, all of which have found their home next to the TV. This selection alone is about 100 CD's so its a rather well rounded finding. Out of those 100 discs I tried to rip, it found the track/album/artist names on about 30 of those discs... Granted, my music of choice isn't quite mainstream but on an app like Audiograbber (can't remember its CD database offhand), I have +90% success.
For now, I seem relegated to 'underground'/lesser known classics like At The Gates' Slaughter of the Soul, etc etc on the XBox. I refuse to type in all the track names, let alone decipher some of more obscure ones, like the russian discs that lurk in my cd racks
Rather unfortunate since some of the reason it was bought was for storing music. Ah well, mp3 discs seem to work a treat, so that'll keep me content for now.
Thats it for now. I'm so keen to fiddle more with this machine. So far, I am far more impressed than I ever thought I'd be with a console.
