Land Rover has replaced the D180 and D240 options with a new-generation 2,0-litre, four-cylinder Ingenium diesel engine – badged D200 – and producing 147 kW and 430 N.m.

The P250, a 2,0-litre, four-cylinder Ingenium petrol model, produces 184 kW and 365 N.m.

Range Rover Velar gains six-cylinder mild-hybrid HST variants

SUV gains HST 300 and HST 400 variants with mild-hybrid tech, following the similar Jaguar F-Pace

Land Rover has added two new models to the Range Rover Velar line-up, which are driven by a choice of petrol and diesel engines with mild-hybrid technology.

The Range Rover Velar HST 400 is driven by a 3.0-litre straight-six petrol engine, producing 394bhp and 405lb ft.

The Range Rover Velar HST 300, meanwhile, is powered by a 3.0-litre diesel engine, also with mild-hybrid technology, producing 295bhp and 479lb ft.

Each model is equipped with Land Rover’s Black Pack, with a contrasting black roof, privacy glass and gloss-black 21in wheels.

Inside, the HST features a black suede cloth headliner and steering wheel. A sliding panoramic sunroof is also included as standard.

It also gains electronic air suspension with adaptive dynamics, the Park Assist Pack and Land Rover’s Cabin Air Purification Plus system.

Sibling brand Jaguar is now offering the same powertrain and handling package for the closely related F-Pace SUV.

The Range Rover Velar now gets a range topping HST edition

395bhp petrol and 296bhp diesel Velars now available in fancy trim. Yours from £70k-ish

Land Rover has revealed two new range-toppers for the Velar, in the shape of this: the new HST edition.

Now available on the delightful Velar following such hits as the Evoque and RR Sport, the HST is effectively a few visual and chassis tweaks, available in either 296bhp 3.0-litre diesel guise, or 395bhp 3.0-litre petrol. Both of those are straight-six Ingenium units, btw, and the HST follows news of the same units offered in sister brand Jaguar’s F-Pace Sport.

Both cars get the exclusive new grey paintjob you see above, along with the ‘Black Pack’ (gloss black elements), 21in alloys, some suedecloth headlining inside and a panoramic roof. They also come with air suspension/adaptive damping that either constantly adjust the setup to road conditions, or are available to gaffa tape into your favoured setting.

Like the F-Pace Sport cars, the Velar’s straight-six engines are mild-hybrids. They both feature a belt-integrated generator in place of a normal alternator, able to recuperate energy through braking and store it in a 48V battery.

Range Rover Velar Lineup Revised for 2022

The Range Rover Velar line-up has been rejigged to include greener derivatives and customers can look forward to the re-launch of the popular Velar Edition.

The Range Rover Velar is positioned between the Evoque and Sport, and Jaguar Land Rover SAs says the revision will see 13 models hit showroom floors from the second half of 2022.

Of these 13 models that will go on sale, there will be plug-in and mild hybrid Velars, giving customers a greener and more efficient option.

Also of interest is Jaguar Land Rover confirming the reintroduction of the popular Velar Edition. This special edition includes the full Velar paint palette, a black contrasting roof, Black Pack, as well as 20-inch gloss black alloy wheels. There’s also a panoramic roof as well as privacy glass.

As far as engines go, the Range Rover Velar will be offered with an assortment of powertrains ranging from 4-cylinder to 6-cylinder. Both petrol and diesel engines will be offered. The P400e plug-in hybrid produces 297 kW and 640 Nm from a combination of petrol and electric power. Impressively, a 0-100 kph of just 5.4 seconds.

There’s a 17.1 kWh lithium-ion battery positioned under the floor which can be charged to 80% in just 30 minutes, depending on charger speed. There’s a pure electric range of 53 km, and fuel consumption claim of 2.2 L/100 km.

Range Rover refines local Velar line-up - reintroduces 'Edition' derivative for 2022

- Range Rover Velar line-up is reduced from 18 versions to 13 for SA for 2022.
- The plug-in hybrid electric version can travel more than 50km on a single charge.
- They are packed with advanced driver aids and luxury and convenience technologies.

Sitting between the Evoque and the Range Rover Sport in the portfolio, the Velar has remained a niche proposition for wealthy people with a taste for ultra-luxurious sporty SUVs. It hasn't been as big of a hit in South Africa as it has in Europe, but Jaguar Land Rover South Africa hopes to attract more customers with it as the Velar range has been honed for the 2022 model year.

Thirteen refreshed models will be available for local buyers come the third quarter of this year, including plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variants and an Edition version. The Edition model was sold in South Africa in limited numbers in 2020. Prices for the new line-up haven't been confirmed yet, as it's too early to call regarding exchange rates and final specifications for SA.

2023 Range Rover Velar brings new interior, 40-mile PHEV

Porsche Macan rival comes in for a fresh design, upgraded interior and boosted performance

The reinvention of the Land Rover line-up continues, as the Range Rover Velar comes in for a significant mid-life facelift aimed at boosting its appeal for the final few years on sale.

The Velar has been on sale since 2017 and was heavily mechanically updated (most significantly gaining a plug-in hybrid option) three years later, but this round of updates is much more visible and wide-reaching - and could help to make Solihull’s Porsche Macan rival a more integral part of the line-up. Last year, it was Land Rover’s second slowest-selling model, shifting 27,668 units - 9000 down on the Land Rover Discovery Sport.

The headline for 2023 is a substantial upgrade for the Velar P400e plug-in hybrid, which – thanks to a boost in battery capacity from 13.6kWh to 19.2kWh – can now travel 40 miles on EV power, compared to 33 previously.

It can also now top up at speeds of up to 50kW, making this one of the fastest-charging PHEVs on sale.

The P400e continues to pair a 296bhp four-cylinder petrol engine with a 141bhp EV motor in the gearbox for 398bhp and 472lb ft, which gets it from 0-62mph in just 5.4sec and on to a top speed of 130mph.

The four-cylinder petrol engine is available without electric assistance in the 248bhp Velar P250, but the other three engine options come with mild-hybrid assistance: a four-pot diesel with 202bhp and a pair of straight-sixes, one petrol and one diesel, with 395bhp and 296bhp respectively. The limited-run, 5.0-litre V8-powered SVAutobiography has not returned for another outing.
