Raped inmate sues prison service

St Albans Prison is a forbidding looking place, I drive past there when visiting my buddy who lives just outside the city.

Why didn't they send him to a rehabilitation center or what you call it? They mostly send people to that for minor crimes.

He was in both a major prison, and a rehabilitation centre. I'm not sure it was a minor crime he was in for either, just not necessarily a premeditated one.

What if you were raped in a holding cell while wrongly arrested or wrongly serving time in jail for a crime you did not commit. SA has released several 'rapists' from prison after it came to light that witnesses/victims lied or they were proven to be innocent of the crime by way of new DNA evidence.

Be careful what you wish for. The way you treat people or accept treatment of them even though they are guilty says a lot about society. He did the crime, he's doing the time for his crime and there is no reason to rape, assault, kill etc someone behind bars. Doing things like this makes you no better than the criminal behind bars.

Sorry this is not directed at you but just a general statement.

Yeah I read it, criminals lie, it's in their nature. They are doing hard time for actual crimes, no need to sensationalize it.
 
Our Prisons are just as corrupt as the government they serve, If we had a decent government most of this type of chit would sort itself out.
 
Problem is that what goes around does not come around, karma is a trendy comforting concept that is complete bs, just ask bob mugabe.

People do get raped in prison but this is more random, a guy in jail for weed possession getting raped for example isn't fair.

Not that I give a crap, just saying.

Obviously now the prison wardens must be imprisoned for being violent vicious criminals, and we're going to need a new set of prison wardens to torture them.

I couldn't even bring myself to read the whole article.

We cannot as a society treat prison inmates like this. If this did indeed happen then these guards are sick. They need to be removed from duty and have their day in court.

Can't believe people think it's acceptable to let people get raped in prisons and holding cells. It's not only violent scum that gets arrested.

Wonder if your opinion will be the same if you get arrested for forgetting about a speeding ticket or on a false charge and end up getting violently raped and infected with AIDS.

Or will you just tell us you deserved it?

And if you think being treated with violence will at all make them a better person then I sure as f**k hope you don't get put in a position of authority.
Prison has turned petty criminals into hardened, violent career criminals thanks to that mindset.

I say rape and torture hardened criminals, make jail scary, make it a place people fear.

No idea but it lightens up the jails and makes space for more criminals. I would prefer torture daily for the duration of their sentence though. much much better than the death penalty but in this country we are overwhelmed by criminals so a couple hundred slaughtered every month would help.

You kill you die. Eye for an eye bitch. Whether it stops crime is debatable but it may stop violent crime and it may make criminals think twice about murder.

I doubt it will stop crime dude, violent crime well it could help. Instead of murder it may just be robbery which is fine. I don't see why criminals need to murder people but with our relaxed justice system why not murder them.
