EDIT: Added story below

Boerboel cruelty caught on video

ALEISHA TISSEN

JOHANNESBURG - Swinging a pick-axe handle as if it were a baseball bat, a well-known member of the Middleburg community is shown on CCTV footage, in The Citizen’s possession, repeatedly striking a boerboel on the head, rendering it unconscious.

The man appeared before the Middleburg Magistrate’s Court in Mpumalanga yesterday on charges under the Animals Protection Act. He was not asked to plead as there are awaiting documents needed for the docket. The case has been postponed until August 14. He is expected to plead not guilty.

On December 31 last year Ian Lombard of the Middelburg SPCA was contacted by an employee of a nearby business informing him of a “stray, aggressive dog at the premises that had attacked and bitten the wife of the owner of the business”.

Arriving at the alleged dog beater’s office, Lombard found a male boerboel cowering in the corner. He later established the dog had not bitten the man’s wife but had jumped up at her after the man threw sand at the dog and made an attack gesture towards him.

Expecting growls or an indication of attack, Lombard carefully approached the dog. “I approached him with ease, put a lead around his neck and gently walked him out of the office. As soon as he started leaving, he went down on all fours, as he appeared scared,” Lombard said.

The footage clearly shows the man kicking sand at the dog as it urinates on a car tyre, the dog jumping up on the man and his wife and the man looking for a pick handle and bucket, taunting the dog and then hitting it with the handle until the dog collapses.

Once unconscious, the man again hits the dog and then inspects the pick handle for blood before walking away. The dog, in the meantime, has regained consciousness and is seen scampering from the video frame.

Gonna wait to see how this court appearance goes. I remember a while back with the story of the guy that used a chainsaw to cut off his Husky's head....cos it bit/ate his parot. Few weeks later...that same oke died in a car accident - aint karma a bitch :D. So ja...will see what happens in his court appearance...hope they give a harsh punishment / name and shame. I know the fines etc are pittyful...but hey....maybe there is some good to come of this. At least the dog didnt die.

But I recon he needs to be paid a visit...and I sooooo wanna be that guy.

Got a friend in the intellectual property department of a law firm, he specialises in websites & domains etc. Was thinking of creating a name and shame website of animal abusers...kinda like the sex offenders list they have in America. Not sure what the legalities are for creating a name and shame website of animal abusers etc, but damn I keen to get this started. Anyone know the legalities of something like this? Could these animal abusers sue the crap outta me? Will be seeing him next week Tues...so have to wait till then...but if someone here has any kinda knowledge on something like this....would value the input ;)

Interesting idea, that. Best speak to your friend who is the expert and then let us know what transpires.

6 weeks back, 2 idiots drop off x2 dogs on our work premises and drive away.
ive been feeding them, the company built a kennel.

Called SPCA to collect - "eish, we dont collect" - wtf

I caught one of them and handed to the SPCA, the other was to quick to catch, so i decided to feed the animal for the next 6weeks. Some chickie pops in at our premises and says "ag shame, dog cant live here" - so she tries to catch it, dogs runs into road and car smacks it, breaks leg.
SPCA now interested , comes and darts the dog and takes it away - im thinking the poor gal is in lullaland.
If I could catch those idiots who dropped off the dogs!!!!

Moral of the story, if u need assistance from the SPCA, make up a B/S story that the dog is seriously injured. Useless FUSKERS

Further to the story - Click here
The dog was euthanized, believed to be aggressive. If only they got the video footage sooner :(

[-]Sorry, what?[/-]

I see the offending post his now been removed.

Lemme at that oke.....

No seriously, I rate people who abuse animals on the same scale as those who abuse women and children. They are the ones that should be "put to sleep"...

So people that abuse men are fine?

What transpired in this case is indicative of the lack of respect for the welfare of animals and the general apathy displayed by the organization most people believe will assist them in cases of abuse, neglect etc.

The current APA is just as toothless and ineffectual at holding perpetrators to account when they are caught. A case in point is the man who cut off his husky's head. He was fined. However in that case karma did catch up to him. The there is the case of the teacher who dragged his dog behind his car. He too got off with a slp on the wrist.

There are countless cases in court at the moment where people like this are defending their actions of neglect and abuse even though it is clear that they are guilty. As the saying goes, money talks and obfustication clouds the waters.

CF, whilst I applaud your resolve to start such a venture, I would caution you against placing any information on a public forum that cannot be 150% substantiated. We have pending cases amounting to large sums against us for information published and this is substantiated information. Lets not even go into the amount of death threats we are subjected to as well as verbal and physical abuse.

This is not an easy game.
