Raspberry Pi budget computer enters production

Although we are still waiting for units to arrive from China, you can start buying the Raspberry Pi today. We have entered into licensed manufacture partnerships with two British companies, Premier Farnell and RS Components. They’ll be manufacturing and distributing the devices on behalf of the Raspberry Pi Foundation, and handling the distribution of our first batches as they arrive in the country. The Foundation continues to make a small profit from each Raspberry Pi sold, which we’ll be putting straight back into the charity.

I've e-mailed RS SA and registered interest on their site but haven't heard a thing. Anyone else had better luck?
 
Yes, P924, my point is Farnell & RS just take over the negotiations for manufacturing with eastern contract manufacturers on behalf of raspberrypi.org, and obviously the distribution. Farnell and RS are not in manufacturing themselves, despite what they implied in the quote.

Can't say that I didn't expect that. The hacker market for this product is absolutely massive. My company could even drop one with a 3G dongle at remote sites where we need access without direct connections to a server or workstation.
 
Apparently decent 1080p video decoder, but I am worried about the sound - just plain stereo cripples it a bit as a decent HT device.

With an addition of a cheap webcam, it would make a cost effective IP camera. Or with the webcam and memory stick/USB SSB a looping DVR. Or a vehicle DVR. Car computer or media player. All cheaper than what is commercially available, even from China AFAIK. A Mame \ Nes box.

I could put it into use in our office and save big $$ as a barcode reader + logger. POS terminal. Or security register.

Maybe read the FAQ on their site, since most all the above questions have been answered already.
 
Someone did ask about Android and they said if someone was willing to port it then it would be possible.

As for HDMI + stereo audio, I'm sure they said the HDMI link outputs both video and audio data.
 
i like the in car computer idea!

what kind of monitor can i get to set up something like that?
