You called the OP a pest well before he said anything bad to you.

He is a pest depending which side of the tree you're on. I was civil in my conduct. Let's not derail this thread further.

I see what you did there :)

Thanks for backing me bro... i didn't do anything wrong and only got defensive when i was attacked. Anyway, i don't really care about abzo and nicki333 or their opinions.

No not yet man. They left me a note threatening to kidnap my wife and children if i continued to try remove them from the tree... The bushy tailed rats.... so i'm gonna have to keep my intentions on the down-low! :p

Get a small greenhouse or make a chicken wire cage for your wheatgrass.

You got lambasted because you started about 50 threads on the same topic.

Actually, i started one, and then got personally attacked by abzo and nic333. Then they got my thread deleted, so i started another one, that got deleted, and then i started one and calle dthe squirrels rats instead... that also got deleted!

So 50 times is a bit of an exageration... unless you cannot count... and for that, there is no help! :p

But seriously, regarding the rat problem... why not take a tray of wheatgrass and either spray it with poison, or ratex on the leaves etc... and then just leave that one pot out for them to eat on... rats and squirrels are very tricky little bastardo's! Gotta get tricky back! :D

Thats what I just did all morning, I plastic-tied chicken wire to the trellidor and left a great big roll on the level with the Tray Holder then I turned all the spikes on the wire outwards. It looks like the Palestine/Israeli wall.
I was going to top it all of with razor ribbon but the daft oke in the hardware shop was too dof to know how to cut it so I gave up.
I also filled three plastic buckets and placed sunflower seed rafts on the surface then I got some yummy blue wax blocks which I plan to nail to areas the rats scarper along but where the dogs can't reach.
That should teach them not to F&*K with Hoseheads wheatgrass.

You are dealing with rats. These things are good at getting into and out of just about any space.

You will need the very small oogies draad if you make an enclosure.
There are no Israli type shortcuts.
You need to close it off completely, floor, walls, everything. Wire must overlap and bend over itself on all edges.
Door needs to overlap.

Good luck.

Wheat grass does not grow very tall far as I know.
Do it indoors and just use some 6500k florescent tubes for lighting.

Mine I harvest at 12 inches straight up... takes 7 days from planting as sprouts, but the reason I grow out doors is because i grow other sprouts plus i need ventilation. - You get a lot of mold otherwise.
Since I started growing on the "porch" ie the enclosed space between the front door and outer trellidor I thought it was rat proof as I had reinforced and overlapped any spaces with timber and placed the growing shelves in the center. The only possible access would have been from about 3/4 the way up the trellidor- so I figured after a month the rats learned to climb it. Now it's wired even higher with a catch net of wire so they can't escape. Each tray they mess up is worth aprox R100 all things considered so it's a financial knocking.

Basically what I am suggesting is that you set up 4 or 6 Florescent tubes in a row and keep them about 1/2" away from the wheat grass by raising the lights or lowering the trays. You have to have a fan on this at all times anyway or the plants won't get enough C02.
The biggest advantage for you will be that you can actually keep everything 100% sterile and of course you can do it through the whole of winter.
Biggest disadvantage will be that you will be paying for light.

I hadn't given any thought to winter. Good points. I'm sure my neighbours will be convinced I'm growing dope.

lol, as an added bonus the wheatgrass will probably grow faster (as you can just leave the lights on most of the time) and you will get some serious oxygen generation right inside your house.

Busy looking at building a terrarium for my wife's carnivorous plants (in case you wonder why I am suggesting this).
