hi guys,

i really want to get a decent mouse pad, been looking at the razer goliathus ones, but they come in two types, speed and control..

wat exactly is the difference?

Get both i reckon if you can but i prefer the speed, nice smooth surface.

The speed is smooth and the control is a bit rough, in my opinion the speed gives you much more control. I bought one a few back that had control and speed on one pad, that was awesome.

I have the goliathus speed and it is flippin awesome with my razer copperhead.

The "Speed" is better.
I've had both, but am playing with a ExtremePad, same as a "Speed", just prettier and thinner, computersonly used to sell them.

I'm assuming "speed" is for gaming and "control" is for graphic designing and photoshop etc (it's actually very tough without a decent pad and mouse)

I have both, "speed" at home, "control" at work. You can't go wrong with either, but I prefer the "speed" one.

Edit: The "control" one has a bit more friction than the speed one, but both are excellent for control anyway.

I use the control mat - reasons:
- if you want to aim on someone, you tend to drift off them while clicking, the control mat has more grip and friction to prevent that from happening.
The Speed mat however is not useless, I would use the speed mat for games such as dota where you dont really need to click on one specific spot.
so you gain that "speed" in your mouse movements.

Its all up to you, Im just giving my opinion :)

tnx for all the feedback guys, contrasting as it is! :)

think maybe control mite be better for me as i'm a low sensitivity player in fps... so for aim and such might be betta..

correct me if im wrong :)

Skip both of these and buy the Steel Series Qck Heavy from Prophecy.

O and I have owned both versions of teh Matis and the Goliathus, the SS pwns those hands down. Not sure why, but they just feel better. Also both my speed mantis and control got a tiny tiny dent in them that my G9 scraped on. SS has not done that yet.

And to touch on the difference between speed and control, the speed has a finer "softer" and smoother surface so its "easier" for the mouse to glide across the surface. The control is almost textured and as was pointed out offers more friction.

I would say feel them when you check them out in a store if you can and then decide.

Haha, see some old COD names posting here..

Final verdict from my side:
If you tend to play on low sensitivity, get the "speed" (or any other smooth pad), while if you play on high sensitivity, rather go for "control".

To give you a quick indication, "low sens" would be setting the ingame mouse_acceleration to "1" and your mouse's dpi to somewhere between 800-1500.
That's how I used to play.

Oh, and hi quick and arion, Re83L here ;)

Control... I'm an old-timer and need the extra accuracy!!

I have the Razer Destructor, the surface should be similar to the control coating. Works for me :D

First off hello hi :D

Secondly haha, low sens, my boy you are in the normal to high sense bracket.

Most low sense players use 400 - 800 and if you game at any level competitively you turn off acceleration. haha. Personally I use 800 sense and 0.7 in game cod4 :P I used to play on 600 dpi but upped it a bit for SMG needed to turn a touch faster haha.

Alternatively you can get a Logitech mouse with on the fly sensitivity changing, and then use the software to set your DPI for specific games. That + the Speed works wonders ;)

yoh guys, bit confused now.

I'm a "low" sensitivity player.. about 1.5 in cod4. does that = speed pad or control? will check out that steel series now
