RCT UPS Disable Sound Permanently

I have 2 RCT UPS's.

I use ViewPower to disable the alarm however it works fine for the first power outage but any subsequent outages the thing keeps on bleeping anoyingly.

I then have to start ViewPower again and disable it again (after every outage).

Is there any way to permanently disable the annoying beeping.

I opened it up but also couldn't find the stupid speaker to cut the wire.
If anybody has pictures of where the stupid speaker sit please post them or is there some setting combo that will disable the stupid speaker.
 
It will not look like a speaker it is a buzzer/beeper - it will probably be mounted directly on the PCB i.e. you will not see any wires leading to it.

My favourite way to reduce the sound is to remove the round QC sticker which is usually somewhere on the UPS and stick that over the top of the buzzer - it is a perfect fit

Please don't do that in future. You could be electrocuted, you are lucky. Rather post a pic to show the exact location, so others can switch off the UPS, disconnect mains and do it safetly.

Sir you are speaking right. I have uncle once he was looking for noise. We also hear noise but it was not appliance, it was uncle screaming. Now everytime I hear noise from UPS appliance I think of uncle screaming.

Yes you are 100% correct, I apologise, this was after disconnecting it from mains and knowing I was dealing with a small 12V battery, etc.

This small battery generates 240V RMS (even more peak) when UPS is in backup mode, it is considered lethal.

Better do not touch things with your finger. :)

Ok saw something like this however I think it is soldered to the board. Will try sticking something over it.
 
My RCT 650VA Line Interactive UPS is back with the damn beeping.

Same issue as @OP -does the buzzer look like the pic in post #2?

I need to kill this thing after my current loadshedding before the next one early tomorrow AM.

I guess it's unplug from wall + disconnect battery & wait 10min before I can start pulling off pieces?

The PCB has a label for the buzzer: BZ-1

I just ripped that off with Leatherman pliers.

No problems so far.

No damn beeping either!
 
These RCT UPS's don't seem to last. I bought one about 6 weeks ago and for the first 5 weeks it would power my fibre and wifi for the full 2h30m load shed but now it only lasts around 2h. My colleague has the exact same problem.

Mine (2000 VA) is still going strong. Had it for nearly two years now and lasts about 3h 30 min before it runs down.

I have the 1000 VA and it only lasts for 2hrs. Thinking of upgrading to the 2000 VA or doing a mod where you connect bigger batteries.

Anyhow the way to kill the beeping is to pluck of the cap of the speaker then inside you will find a metal disk. Just remove the disk and no more sound.
No need to rip off the whole speaker with possible risk of damage.

Same with my mecer, wife had on for super long when there was issue in area, which killed the batteries :(

Batteries is pretty cheap to replace.
 
I unplugged the battery, then gently removed the cover of the speaker (as shown above) and then removed the silver bit shown, put the ups all back together and no more beeping.UNADJUSTEDNONRAW_thumb_a85.jpg
 
I just did this on my smaller RCT 850VA ups. Here's some pictures I took of what I did if it might help someone else.(See photos at bottom)

Process was basically

- Ensure the ups itself is turned off (button on the front of ups)
- Unplug from the ups from the wall
- Unscrew the 4 long screws from bottom (you need a fairly long star screwdriver to reach the screws)
- Pull upper half of cover and carefully separate it. The two halves will still be connected by wires so you can't pull too hard and need to keep the two halves fairly close together after
- Detach the red and black wires connected to the battery. You can simply just pull them off at the battery terminal quite easily
- Locate the speaker which is on the circuit board on top half opposite to where the battery is
- Get a pliers and pull the tiny black speaker "cap" off first
- Now pull the top half of the speaker underneath which should also come off with a little force
- Now reattach the battery terminal wires to the battery (red wire to red terminal , black wire to black terminal)
- Gentle put the two halves of the ups case back together
- fasten the 4 screws back to keep cover fastened

Now you can test it
- Connect power cord to ups and Plug the unit back into the wall ( switch wall plug on)
- Switch ups on using the button in the front
- Now to test beeping is gone, turn the switch off at the wall to get the ups battery to kick in
- You should hear no beeps. Wait minute or two to confirm you still don't hear a beep
