Re-shopping

*shrug* Don't look at me - I'm just here for moral support :p

They're an online store so it's imperative for them to have accurate information on their site. Here's a plan - pop into Off Topic and ask around if anyone's dealt with that particular online store...

Otherwise go to www.jump.co.za or www.pricecheck.co.za and see if you can't find the same laptop at another store that you've perhaps used before?

Good plan...

Unfortunately, HP provides the particular notebook with both BrightView and non-BrightView display. And most online stores simply quote the manufacturer's specifications (which don't give much clarity on WHICH). So he is probably working off his specification sheet :(

Hmmm... only jumping into the thread now, but have you considered IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad T61? I have one, and for performance and usability it beats my old Dell Inspiron hands down!

*nod* That's more than likely the case. In which case (haha - looks, I made a funny by repeating the same word) you hope that their service is up to scratch and that they'd be willing to accept the return of the notebook if it isn't exact to the specifications. How about finding out if they'd accept that? :D

I've considered them, but everyone I know that has had an IBM / Lenovo has had major issues with them. Their support was good, however.

The voice of reason at this hour... See, I'm the normal one... You're the weirdo

Only issue I had was that it came with Vista, but after trying it for a day or two, the dealer was extremely willing to downgrade to XP! ;)

Good choice...

Now all you need to do is UPGRADE to Ubuntu, and you'll be set :D

Seriously though, I'm not too phased about operating system: I'll use my own anyway

Pff :p I'm poking around the net looking for RAM :) I'm looking for 2gigs for my compie and considering this. So reason has its merits :p

The laptop I had was an R40e. It worked beautifully... But I've had to replace the hard drive twice - both times to an original Fujitsu that came with it which was hell to find. I was too scared to try any other type. Then I dropped it and the drive went to hell again and I've left it since... :( Other half wasn't exactly chuffed with me.

Mine :) I built up my own compie - first time ever, actually :o So far new mobo, PSU, et al except for RAM and a processor. I'm currently on a Core 2 Duo 6300 running at 1.86Ghz :( I'm also currently on a 7300 GS since my beautiful brand spanking new GTX 260 went back to Sybaritic last week Monday because I couldn't deal with that godawful high-pitched scream it felt like doing if I didn't V-Synch it.

I love my compie XD I've really enjoyed putting it together. A while back I said I'll never buy another already-made computer. I've learned a lot about it, actually - and loving every moment :D RAM is a whole new learning curve for me :) Mobo supports up to 1200Mhz DDR2... But I haven't the faintest idea how to tell if RAM chips consist of 128meg chips (which my board apparently doesn't support) :D

But I'm learning :D

*huggles his bootiful compie* :D

Well that's far more machine than I've ever owned... I'm a bit of a cheapskate :o

You mean if the RAM modules consist of 128MB chips... Well you'd have to look at the configuration: how many chips on either side of the RAM (if double-sided), what is the total amount of RAM, and then do the (admittedly simple) math.

Damn @ GTX 260... So you buy yourself a pretty GFX card and then chuck your wife's notebook... You truly are living THE life

Take a look and you tell me how many chips the RAM "modules" consist of :p :p :p Oh, and thanks - I couldn't find the word :D

*cough* I bought the cheap Leadtek GTX 260... Was R3,600-odd. I asked forum's opinion on it, everyone said it doesn't make a difference and that it's just a name. And now I've been without the damn card for almost 2 weeks :p Never, ever will I buy another Leadtek!

Oh - and I don't have a wife :p
