He wouldn't tell me. He feels that he needs to pay for it himself. Wants to work for his way in life. I've contacted another family that I know that lives out there and has kids at the school, to see if they can help out with lifting him. Saw them today and they said cool, just need to get his address. They also said he must not pay for petrol, which is cool. If he wants to earn it, then they'll give him some work instead. Cool family. Sorry forgot to mention that earlier. Thanks for reminding me.
That's awesome news. Then his weekends just opened up.
Tell you what, give him the Raspberry Pi on my behalf, and I've also got an old 19" LCD screen lying around here somewhere (if I can find it) for him to use, and a wireless keyboard. I'll have a scratch around this weekend to see where it is. If I can find it you might need to find a power supply for it, and an HDMI to DVI converter to use with the Pi. He now has something productive to do on the weekends.
And graviti, well done on going out of your way to help this kid. I really and truly mean that. I had a teacher in grade 5 who helped me to such an extent that I still to do this day think she was one of the few people to actually guide me in the right direction.
The world, and specifically our education system, needs more people like you. Well done, man.
If this kid needs anything else in the way of routers, switches, cables etc then feel free to get in touch. I've got plenty of them lying around doing nothing. Nothing better than actually giving them to someone who can really put them to good use...
