Yeah, I have similar things. I don't have abandonment issues, but I never think I'm good enough. I never think I'm good enough at my job, or for other people, particularly women I want to date.

It sounds like you should look for a new job anyway. I mean, even if you are particularly sensitive to it, it isn't good if a senior manager doesn't want you around. Even if you were completely "healthy", it isn't good. Any normal person wouldn't take that well.

There is no easy answer. I wish there was a magic wand.

I will say that you should read up on neuroplasticity. Neuroplasticity refers to the growth of an adult brain. I've seen one or two studies that indicate that depression is actually what you feel when the rate at which neurons are born is less than the rate at which neurons are destroyed. When you create more neurons than you lose, you feel good. This is a theory I've read about, backed up by some evidence.

What is generally regarded as true is that neuroplasticity is good for mental health. When your brain is changing, you feel good.

So how can one achieve neuroplasticity in general?

A few ways are:
Eating healthily - I think especially the right fats are important here. The usual suspects like eggs and fish appear.
Exercise. A combination of weight lifting and just walking I believe promotes neuroplasticity.
Meditation. Has been shown to have permanent long term positive effects on the brain, but the effects take a while. You would have to meditate for a long time to see results - but at least the results are permanent.
Yoga. Similar to the above.
Psychedelic drugs such as magic mushrooms. These apparently can do wonders. Just beware that there are no magic bullets, and even though magic mushrooms are powerful, they are not magic bullets.

What about weed? Does that fall into the psychedelic range?

@|tera| so what's the plan? For yourself and the future?
I'm taking it one day at a time right now.
I'm stuffed in all directions of my life, from finances to seeking alternative employment. I don't have finances to relocate or pay for things I need.
I understand what I should do.
I also know what I'm able to do.

Good, good. So day to day excluding work and chores what is it that you spend your time on?

They say anyone with mental health issues should avoid any and all mind altering substances as they do affect your brain chemistry - also I'm pretty sure you doctor would have told you that weed is a no-no if your on strong meds for bipolar disorder.

Listening to music mostly. Watching a movie every now and again. I watch a lot of international news. If this is going in the exercise direction, I'll be honest there's been no progress so far. I also do web design and this keeps me occupied over weekends only.

No I'm thinking how it helps if I keep myself busy with whatever that may be, try to go to friends or walk around etc etc, being outside is key so taking up club rugby or golf or something if the like, you know what I'm trying to say.

EDIT: Music is a good thing, can swing your emotions left right and centre with it if you want.

I second the exercise and getting outdoors... disconnect. A major contributing factor to stress is TMI. Information overload is real, particularly in IT. We gravitate towards it so it's not an easy cycle to break. Watching the news and posting on MyBB are the two I find harder to break.
Find a parkrun and join it for the community aspect... walk if you don't run - many people do.

I'm just asking a question in terms of comparison to shrooms as Ancalagon mentioned.
