Hi All

some idiot in a Ford Ecoboost rear-ended my wife this morning.

Can anyone recommend good panelbeaters in the east rand or sandton area ? They must be Lexus approved.

I've looked at Proline Panelbeaters and MF Autobody. Anyone had experiences with them ?

Regards
Ryan

You still need a decent, reputable panelbeater who will do a good job. Insurance only pays the bill, it doesn't guarantee decent workmanship.

Many insurance companies are linked to specific "authorized" panelbeaters. You may have to choose from one of them.

You must use a panel beater authorised by the car manufacturer, not the insurance co. My Honda was damaged by a fellow trying to squeeze past on his motor-cycle. To retain the car's guarantee, they would only allow one panel-beater to do it

I wasn't terribly impressed. Even though the damage was to the rear panel and door, they managed to "lose" the parcel tray, the studs holding down the plastic around the windscreen tray and also put on 2300km for the 10 days they had it. I took pics of the odometer and showed it to the reception when I handed it in, but he declined to sign the dated image. After a 9 month fight, I received R 4600 back from them

Morale of the story... don't buy Honda :)

My previous car was fixed at Proline in Wynberg. They did a very good job.

Why not use Proline?
Had an Audi A6 being repaired there... Picture of the damage attached.

Car was ready after a month - which is fine but the work was rejected (due to an airbag light and the wrong panel trim having been used amongst other reasons) and rejected again about 2 weeks later (airbag light and one or two other things I can't recall).

They also changed the front numberplate which we specifically told them not to do as it only had a very minor stone chip as we did not want the front to not match the back numberplate.

On first look after supposed completion, they had replaced it with a metal one and had installed it illegally (double-sided tape rather than rivets). They agreed to mount them correctly for the next time we fetched the car as well as install metal plates at the back... On the second attempt, they had still not mounted it properly and had used two different sized numberplates for front and back. After waiting over an hour, that issue was sorted...

A week after that we took delivery and returned it the next day due to noises (which weren't there before the accident) when braking and pulling off. Turns out that the impact shock damaged one of the engine mountings... The assessor approved the repair and the car was returned to us once the work was completed

Why have any hassle? Phone your broker and they will sort everything out even the recovery of your excess and you shouldn't have any increase in premium. AF have a claims binder and they handle and settle the claim.
Panel beater has to be Lexus approved if your car still under warranty.
Good luck and make the broker earn their commission.

My advice would be to take the car for a AA full assessment after the fact. Tell them to focus on the areas of damage.

Did this after a serious accident and they identified a dangerous leak in the fuel system and poor work in the engine bay. Both made the car un-roadworthy.

Reported it to the insurance company and told them we are seeking legal advice given that we received un-roadworthy car and a fire hazard due to fuel leak.

Got asked to show up at the body shop next day with car. Head of insurance division, two assessors and another high level manager had come out to meet us.

In the end they told the company to replace anything that is remotely suspicious. Not sure who paid in the end but they spared no money. Replaced panels, bumpers, repainted car, replaced fuel tank, fuel pump, fuel lines, shocks, etc. Manager was very friendly with me. You could see they had a talk with the body shop before. Everyone working there looked super scared and eager to please.

After I got my car back the second time it was pretty much like a brand new car.

My 2c.

Gee whiskers.
Next time you want to give some one a lift they need to climb in at the door not in the front.... :)
