Rear foglights driving thread

They are really blinding and dangerous as they limit your vision. I honestly think that the vast majority of drivers who have these on are not aware that they have them and what they are for.

If you were driving behind an idiot with his/her rear fogs on, on a clear night, you would know !
Extremely distracting to the driver following, and making spotting the vehicle ahead braking very difficult. I sometimes also wonder whether these twats even have a clue that they're driving with it on all the time.
 
Just a question, if these fog lights are blinding you, then why doesn't anyone just turn their headlight bights on to try and blind the person in front?

Because it has no effect, they keep driving with it on. They really have no clue. And you inconvenience other innocents in front of you.

Or are you speaking from experience and it has worked for you in most cases?

Those Chery QQ's are the worst with that single bright red light, being chinese they probably don't have an off switch...

No, they have two, the Chevrolet Spark has one fog and one reverse. The QQ SUV also has two bright rear fogs and its set higher up on the vehicle,, very irritating.

I suppose certain things matter to certain people. I drive at all hours, this has NEVER bothered me. But we are all different I suppose.

Have you seen the lumo pick / red fogs mini coopers have? By far the worst. That colour pierces my cornea. Everytime I see it I think I'm going for lasik.

My experience so far ( and i am not generalising or brand bashing but I found the following three general culprits.
Bmw
Polo
Audi.

I owned a a4 11 years ago and it's not that easy to switch the rear fogs on. Not impossible but not easy either. You had to turn and pull the switch.

So now I ask. Dont they care, are they trying to prove something or just plain stupid.?
 
This is really becoming a huge problem. I see this all the time, and agree with IzZzy. Those Mini ones are the worst, and always some young chick in it! I just show my irritation by keeping mu brights on behind em.

Because all the cars you listed have that feature.

So bright red lights at the rear of the vehicle are some new DLR light scheme?

EDIT: I am unable to find a single pic on google for Rear DLRs. In fact some people moan about there not being rear ones as in this link http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/Community/Forum-Landing/Forum-Categories/Topic/?topic-id=7503. You have to be an idiot to drive into people from the rear, DLRs are so that people do not turn in front of approaching vehicles and claim they "didn't see them" and to see vehicles from a further distance when overtaking other traffic.

I'm not overly annoyed by people turning on their rear fogs but I do find it pointless if your normal rear lights work, BUT in their defense certain cars light switches don't thoroughly indicate that you have the rear fogs on, e.g. In my Jeep the lights sit on the indicator stalk, to turn them on I have to twist the end of the stalk in a forward direction and if I want front Fogs I must pull, now when I 1st got the car I would twist it until the end, the last two positions seemed the same, nothing seemed to happen until the day I was parked in reverse with a wall behind me, I then realized that if I twist to the final position then my rear fogs will turn on an they are ridiculously bright, I was shocked nobody on the road had screamed at me.

People really need to get to know their cars better for their and other peoples safety.

The rear fogs of a Mini are incredibly annoying, the 2000-2006 model had one fog just above the exhausts (Cooper S) but the last two generations (2007-2013 and 2014-) have two, and both as bright as the one the 1st gen BMW Mini had, and if I remember correctly turning on the rear fogs on a Mini isn't 'easy' either, most don't turn them on, it's a few culprits who do.

Daytime running lights and rear foglights are two different things. Daytime running lights are at the front, usually white and they tend to dim a bit when the main beam or front foglights are turned on at night.

Rear foglights are at the back, they are Red or a bright pink in the case of Minis. Rear foglights can be extremely annoying if left on on a clear night as they are piercing, they are meant to be seen in fog so you can imagine how powerful they are.

I have noticed they also dim on the side of an indicator light that is on.
