Rebel Tech is shutting down

Rebel Tech, one of South Africa's specialist computer hardware retailers, has announced that it is closing down.

The company's founder, Rune Ravnsborg, made the announcement to its employees, suppliers, and customers on Facebook.

This is very sad. And there's much more small businesses going the same route....

I might just be in a foul state of mind but I believe this is partly due to those stupid restrictions set out by Minister Patel....

It's a pity because they would have stock of things that were otherwise quite hard to get, e.g. Noctua coolers.

It sounds like it is a combination of bad decisions or wrong high risk decisions combined with weak sales during lockdown hitting the nail in the coffin. Obviously speculating until we have more info. Haven't used them as they were too expensive and their website really sucked, but I know between them and Wootware they were the best online stores with after sales service and very few complaints, if any, here on MyBB. Sad to hear anyways.

Imho Wootware was skirting the law while others fall prey to the situation.

Very sad. It was surprising that they weren't selling during phase 5 while wootware & titan ice were selling "essential goods".

Wootware didn't sit back and grabbed the opportunity they had. What encouraged Rebel Tech not to use the opportunities they had to still trade, I don't know.

Takealot is also there, sometimes even cheaper than Wootwear. But that is of course if you don't need any support or advice with your system.

Really? I thought their site was quite easy to navigate...
I know hardware sales are heavily dependent on corporate clients though. Profit margins aren't that great and if you're not moving volume you're kind of surviving month to month.

I support the intentions behind the lockdown. Blame the Chinese or whoever started this coronavirus.

I sympathise with Rebel Tech, although I don't remember ever buying anything from them. I assume you were a consistent customer over the last 13 years.
