Err... That's not how programming jobs work and that's a pretty good way to get yourself pushed out of the company.

If your performance is being measured over only a minor part of who you do, that is something I would bring to the attention of the powers that be and try to resolve.

Ah, ok, I stand corrected.

Got double the average of the company this year, 13.5% increase. But the only reason they did that was I was starting to make it known that I might start looking for a new job :D

I got an average increase and a bonus..... it all comes to around 12.5% increase on last year's earnings.

i am happy enough for the moment, I would have preferred an increase of 10%, as then it is a future surety :(

Same here, but I got an addition % when I joined last year. At least with that it's about 10%

Now I get an idea why people's turning to criminal activities to supplement their own, meagre salaries.

Sad.

I wouldn't say its the unions that are fair and square to blame.

depends on the environment that one works in....

Some industries are heavily unionised , others hardly register on any scale...

I think that increases are dismal, regardless of industry, and whatever increase is attained, is negated by the shocking petrol price, e-tolls and inflation. The figures government quotes for inflation is an outright lie.

Some companies that are performing well reward their employees accordingly. Others do not.

It comes down to the employer i guess and just how much they value their employees.

Most companies are dishing out horrible increases, like for the last few years...

Have you considered other ways? Unless it is a very high bridge, the possibility is there that you might not die on impact and still be alive for some time, hurting badly..

Well I received my increase and bonus letter today as well. Time to jump.

I've been to 2 interviews so far. Don't know if you guys know about this online assessment (http://www.ikmnet.com/products/assessment_samples.cfm). It's Mfk'n hard, and companies use this online assessment to gauge your knowledge and stuff...

Because I dev in many languages (procedural and OO), it's a bit hard to know the technical detail of some frameworks when 50% of your job is 1 language, 20% is of another language, 10% of another language and so on.

I am interested in a Systems Analyst role though and I am declining dev opportunities at the moment...

Just got the promotion I applied for. No salary increase as I was already fairly high but I got a very nice chunk of shares as an extra bonus. Apparently thats how management level works around here. Salary stays the same but performance bonuses are much higher and you get shares too that are exercizable after 3 years. I have gotten very nice bonuses over the years and this years combination of shares and bonus was 240% higher than my previous best.
