Save the 15k, laptops are over-rated nowadays anyways.

Yeah, I've seen those... Bit odd having 2 screens on one lappy though... :p Still, I don't think they'll be very portable...

I'd consider it if the over-hyped and over-procied Interactive-Feminine-Hygiene product from (cr)Apple allowed me to to design and development work on it.

Sadly, it doesn't, so it belongs in the toilet, like all good, used "pads" do... :sick:
 
I'm considering an HP Envy 115-1060 atm... i7 processor, 4GB RAM, ATI 4830 1GB, 15.6", 1920x1080 res, 320GB 7200rpm HDD for R17k... not too bad, imho?
 
No that's very nice looking. 4830 is a bit weak for any real gaming, that's the only thing. I dunno it's a bit unbalanced to me... but maybe it's what you need?
 
I bought the Acer 7740G on the Incredible Corruption special for R8999. Comes with Core I5 Processor, 4gigs Ram, Dedicated ATi Mobility Radeon 5650 1gB GPU. 640Gig HDD. The thing runs like a dream Bad Company 2, Crysis, Need for speed shift... i have it setup running an HDMI cable carrying Vid and Audio to my LCD Tv at 720p and it rocks for gaming.

Yeah, its all i could do not to throw up on the squinty eyed sales dude, but to be frank where can you get a laptop specced like that for a price like that inc Vat? Rectron? Not likely... Import... slightly cheaper but what a pain...
 
Is it safe to buy the new Mecer Xpression laptops? I can get a barebones M770CU with Core i7-720QM Quad Core, 4GB RAM, 320GB hard drive, ATi Radeon 4570 with 512MB dedicated graphics for about R9500. Will be buying one before going overseas for a year, is it a safe buy? Has anyone bought one of these new Mecer laptops?

Would go for the Acer laptop but have heard that it's best to stay away from Acer laptops? Is the special at Incredible connection still on?

You're staying away from Acer, a global company that like it or not, have a fair percentage of the international market share in computers, in exchange for Mecer, a local company that doesn't have the world's greatest rep? I'm not a fan of Acer, not by any means, but if I had to choose between two evils, I'd choose the one that people would actually recognize if I took it overseas.
 
Yeah you're right. Rather go with a recognized brand for peace of mind. If I weren't going overseas or if someone has a good experience with the new Mecer laptops, I would go for the Mecer.

How would games look at 1366x768 res on the 16" Asus N61 laptop? Most reviews sight the low res as a big turnoff - is it really that bad or is it a case of a higher resolution being "nice to have" ?
