Recommendation for a Wireless Gigabit N router

Howzit all...

I am looking for a good router for my place, current one is just not cutting it (huawei basic model), current setup is PS3 connected with a network cable via PS3Media Server to the home PC, (too many times it gets a network connection error), 2 laptops (Mac and Win7)

any input would be appreciated, budget is R1200 at most.

Do you need it to also be an ADSL modem? If not I'd recommend a Linksys E2000 or E3000.
 
Haven't had any issues with my Netgear N series, I paid about R1500 for it though. I hope you're not planning on going wireless?
 
yes, it has to be an ADSL modem, and no not going wireless with the PS3 connection but for browsing the web with all the other devices...another question is what *specs* must i be on the look out for?
 
You won't really find an ADSL modem + Gigabit Switch + 802.11n all-in-one unit for that price!
The cheapest one that I know of is the Linksys WAG320N, which costs like R1400.

If you just need a Gigabit Router + 802.11n device (without an ADSL modem that is), then you can get away for like R600, with this TP-Link WR1043ND: http://www.dbg.co.za/product_info.php?cPath=1_55_56&products_id=382

I would actually suggest that you go for that TP-Link Gigabit Router, and then just buy a cheap (but good) ADSL modem too (eg. http://www.dbg.co.za/product_info.php?cPath=1_55_57&products_id=183), or you can just use your existing ADSL modem.

Oh, and this is probably the 10th thread regarding gigabit LAN + ADSL modem + 802.11n that past few months.

yeah I would buy a separate ADSL modem and a wireless N Gigabit router.
 
I'm no networking guy but I did the following:

I have a Gigabit switch with ps3, Tv, pc connected.

Then the wireless adsl router connects to the switch and the adsl

So the wireless router is just used to assign all the ips and to broadcast internet and the switch feeds the media to my wired devices.

Maybe a network guru can say if its a bad idea but it works well for me
 
Beachless, that setup of yours is perfect. Some people just don't like to have that many network components, but then they'll have to pay the massive premium for the all-in-one options.
 
Thanks South_Bit! That is indeed a very good price, but like usual, Makro over exaggerates the amount that you save, because they say it usually costs R1900 - LOL.
 
No matter what it normally costs, thats a good price.

My only issue with that unit is that it probably doesn't support External aerials... so I would wonder about the Wireless coverage
 
I am very tempted to get one myself for that price, but I don't really have a need. Very tempted....compulsive upgrade disorder :(
 
I'm also curious to know how good the wireless signal is of the WAG320N and the E4200. Both of those routers have internal antennas and no option for extending them with external antennas.
