If you can upgrade in 6 months or so then get a 4890 for now. Otherwise save up more for a 5850 or 5870 and you probably wont need to upgrade for at least 2 years.

+1 to SaiyanZ.

or you could also consider a 5770, they're on par for the most of it as a 4870. Great card for the money. Otherwise I'd say the 4890 for sure! I mean, if I'm thinking right, its the 5970>5870>5850>4890>5770>4870>4850, which means the 4890 is still like ATI's 4th fastest card so it's still an amazing card.

i'm looking for a good card aswell, but I dont want to spend lot of cash, somewhere around the 1000 mark? And which brand of ATI/Nvidia does one get? Theres like all these weird brands. Esquire are selling Sparkle, I mean is that ok? Then theres all these brands below.
The last time I bought a GPU was like years back, so now theres all this new jargon. From what I understand, one should go for DDR3 PCI-E 256bit right? I dont think I will need bigger than 512, although 1GB will be great. Suggestions?

For under 1000 get the 4670 for just over 1000 get 4850.

cool, so then a vapour-x 4850, best card I can get for about a grand? Oh yeah, Vapor-X is made by Sapphire...

so something like this then

I got this board, I dont think this card will work, or will it? Nooit, I just bought this bloody mobo. I just read that all the PCI-E standards 1-3 are backward compatible, but isnt that like taking a ferrari motor and putting it in a mini? Its going to be fast but u not getting the whole experience, in which case, its a waste?

PCINT has HD 5750 1GB GDDR5 PCI-E DUAL DVI-I / TVO - Asus R 1,199 excl. R 1,366 incl.

Is it better than the 4850?

The 5750 is faster than the 4850 and has dx11. Go for it.

guys , esquire have a sparkle 9500gt 128bit 1G for 540 and then the 2 advertisedd on their site , in order which is best please ? i got onboard so any of these will be better , pls advise if the prices are good or can i do better online ?

You can get a 4650 for around the same price as a 9500gt yet the 4650 wires the floor with it.
