The 9500GT sucks. Rather get a 4650 or 4670.

hi guys, need a mid range GPU, is this statement still current? Or is there other stuff to go for nowadays? thanx

budget is around 1k, is there a really big difference between 128bit and 256bit? I mean is it better going for 1GB 128bit or 512MB 256bit? Its only really going to be used for the odd game and corel draw/CAD apps.

You can get a Hd 4650 at Prophecy for about R430, with passive cooling.

dont see anything like that on their site? u sure?

I do see they got a couple HD5450 for around 700, these any good? Or still go for the 4650 or 4670?

EDIT: Just found this site. In comparing the 9800/9600GT and HD4650, the 9800GT still way ahead? Why is then this current sentiment that ATI is better? I asked earlier in this thread regarding the 9600GT and even it is way above the 4650?

9600GT is same price as the 4650, but still way above it? I'm LANK confused, why does everyone rate the ATI 4650? I'm using a 9800GT 512MB at the moment and its just fine....

Ok fair enough, the 9800GT is DDR3 and 256bit, bit for 1GB its only around 1100. Anyone recommend anything better? If you got, please provide facts as to why?

EDIT:

Ok, this is a card that performs in the same league as the 9800, actually quite a bit faster......hmmm, the findings continue

http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/video_lookup.php?cpu=Radeon+HD+4770

So, I guess then its either 9800 1GB or 9600GT 512MB or the ATI 4770 512MB?

Anyone got anything better, around the 1100 mark?

4850 is the best bet at the r1100 mark - unless you can find a 9800gtx+, I'm not sure if they're around or what they go for but it'll be faster than a 4850.

I only recommended the 4650 against the 9500gt and because you had a low budget.

For R1100 the best is to go for a 4850.

Nothing wrong with force3d. My brother and I both have force3d cards.

R463 for 4650 and R1136 for 4850, looks like 4560 is just too good a price to pass up, i dont need anything kick ass, 4650 be better than onboard?

What exactly do you need the graphics card for? Onboard isn't that bad, especially if you're in Linux and not gaming. One thing's for sure, you get what you pay for with graphics cards. HD4850 still one of the best bang for buck cards, far more than HD4650. If you want/need something in the middle, go for HD4670.

Don't get the 4650 if you're gaming higher than 1280*1024. Rather 4670 or 4850.

agreed, i dont do much gaming, but yes, now and again I might, I also use CAD and stuff like Corel draw quite a bit, just want something better than onboard, but if 4650 wont give me much of an improvement over onboard, then I wont bother?

4670 is +-700, 4850 is +- 1250, still cant decide...

Still confused....also found the 4730 512MB and the new 9800GT 1GB, both for just on 1040.

I ideally can only spend around R700, so I found the 4670 for 772, which seems quite a bit better than the 4650, according to the grid on the link above, is 4670 seriously that much better than its cheapy cousin 4650?

Look 4650 is a huge gigantic leap over on board.

HD 4890 Vapor-X

I put one in my new rig and it eats most games for lunch then asks for more, trust me :P

To put it in perspective, with 24x samples forced through Catalyst Control Center and vsync enabled, Mass Effect 2 runs at a silk smooth CONSTANT 60fps. Its a great card, at least for my needs :D
