Just very curious as i see this topic pop up often. Do you need the passwords to just compare prices? Otherwise, surely if you a registered dealer, calling them for it would be easier and if not a dealer, then whats the point?

Just curious as to why thats all :o

I'm not a dealer yet, and its quite difficult becoming one if you are in the UK like I am. I am returning to SA in August, and is keen to open a computer store, but need some info to find out if my idea is viable. Is there any way to get a pricelist from any of the wholesalers without having to be a registered CC?

dude i can tell you now opening a computer store is not viable anymore

there is no money in pc shops unless its online

Not true. I often buy hardware from a local shop which prices really aren't bad. Sometimes cheaper than online retailers. They buy from Rectron, pinnacle micro, axis etc.

True, but it's a risky business.

the problem is there are so many pc shops now that the market is saturated badly

so sure you may buy your stuff from a local store but there are so many now that stores cannot make good money anymore

only incredible does really well because they target the rich i dont know about pc market

They've been in business since 1996 if I'm not mistaken. It's a small shop and they only keep stock on stuff like DVD-Rs, cables, ink and just order the other stuff from the suppliers when needed. Just the other day they bought a vehicle for transports/couriering. Doesn't sound too bad to me :) Then again this is bloem and many people still fear PCs (:D) so not THAT many PC shops around. I know of 6 but there's bound to be more. I only buy from the one though. (excl online retailers)
If something in my system breaks, it's nice knowing I can just go to the store and return it and request a new one. They know me by name. :)

Near me theres around 8 Computer Shops all within a few hundred meters from each other.

Most of the Franchises sell the goods too cheap, so for someone without a franchises (and buying power) its difficult to make a profit.

I know the market is very satuarated, and except for the location I have in mind, I would not think of opening a computer store anywhere else (not even online). The area I'm looking at is big enough to support a GAME, and they would also be the only competitor (although not that much of our markets will overlap). I would describe the mindset of the customers very simmilar to that of Bloem, except that the growth potential is a lot higher. I considered franchises, but the only reasonable priced one is Matrix Warehouse, starting at R650k.

If you guys still think there isn't any money to make, or if a franchise would be a better option, please let me know. Would hate to lose money!

Cheers

I think you have alot of Business Clients you can make it, Most of the Franchises care care of home users as they mostly do sales but if you do callouts for businesses as well as a few homes users you might be able to survive.
