Which is interestingly enough a by-product of the refinement process . . .AFAIK, there are very few unrefined sugars used these days. The only substitutes I know of are natural alternatives like honey, molasses, glucose etc...

Just stay clear of the artificial sweetners like aspertame...they are even worse than sugar imo.
Use brown sugar in your coffee, tea or cooking. Tastes better than white sugar and is healthier.
No, it's not healthier. It's not like white rice and brown rice, where the brown rice is less processed and therefore healthier.
So i have decided to start eating healthy foods and am attempting to cut out all refined sugars. How does one tell if a product at the shop is good sugar or refined sugar???

Why not just swap cola for fruit juice or water?
You'd be amazed how much sugar (and calories) there are in fruit juice. Probably still better than cola, but nowhere near as 'light' as diet cola.
