Reflexology anyone?

I say go to the reflexologist. But PLEASE do me and DJK a favour...

It's simple. Don't say a word to the Reflexologist. Don't give any tip offs, no health history, no medical information. Not one stitch. Just say hi and that's it. Then let them use the mysterious science on Reflexology to 'diagnose' your problems. If you give them any hints, they can cold read you. Then write down whatever the doctor says to you.

The trouble with these alternate therapies is that you ONLY hear of the 'successes' and never the misses. So it seems to work for the people you ask. But in controlled testing, it fails to beat chance every single time.

Hey, at least you get a decent foot rub for the money. Can't say the same for herbalists and homoepaths - you're just buying useless plants and water.

I see what you saying. You definitely never hear about the stories where they got it wrong. I'm just so fed up with doctors. I haven't been feeling as healthy as i want to feel for a long and all they do is throw painkillers at me and send me on my way. It's frustrating. So a friend suggested i try alternate therapy. I've never been fond of homeopaths either but i guess i'm just at the end of my rope and am hoping someone can pinpoint why i have such problems with my stomach.

As if (western) medicine gets it right all the time ...

Have you tried a gastroenterologist for your stomach problems? I went to one, and he found nothing wrong with me after a gastroscopy. That made a big difference, knowing i was healthy, but the real diagnosis was acute anxiety from a difficult relationship. It was actually psychological. Once i dealt with my issues, my stomach came right in a short period of time. Have you considered counseling? Anything bothering you?

I do know i live my life constantly stressed out so you may be right i might need to see someone regarding this.

How expensive was the gastroenterologist?

No ,western medicine doesn't get it right all the time. BUT, we have repeatable, medical procedures, tests and diagnosistics that can find thousands of specific medical conditions, infections, deficiencies, ailments, mental conditions and viruses. These tests work on any person and save millions of lives a year.

No matter how much you advocate 'alternative therapies', you'll be the first to go to a real doctor or hospital when you are really sick or need surgery. Can you admit that? Or is western medicine also a hit and miss mysterious practice where general suggestions, guessing and cold reading is required to figure out what is wrong with a patient?

Sometimes you are just sick and the doctor doesn't know which of a billion different viruses or bacteria is currently affecting you the day you walk into their room. But it's good enough to give you painkillers and an antibiotic if your symptoms are reasonably mild and don't get worse over time. You have an immune system that takes care of most things. For the serious stuff, medical science has given us amazing cures and surgeries to it sort out.

This does sound like something similar to what i had.

The gastro was about R400 for the consultation, and about R1200 for the gastroscope. Totally worth it for piece of mind. Sometimes hearing "you're medically fine" is enough to snap you out of the vicious cycle.

Stress is a terrible thing - it can literally kill your body over time. If you can already recognise your constant stress, then I'm willing to bet some therapy might do you good.

Good luck.

I wonder how humans before medicine survived??

especially since herbs are no use...

Herbs are of use - in fact pharmaceutical companies use herbs, or at least they replicate the active chemicals in some herbs to use in some drugs. Humans survived - they just weren't able to fight off infections, disease and other medical ailments as effectively as we can today...

My mother suffers from gastro issues as well, mostly induced by stress. My ex had a very similar issue as well, but hers was definitely medical related but brought on by stress too. Stress can be a killer in more ways than just high blood pressure and heart issues. But I'm no medical practitioner so I can't explain it. I'm sure science can though...

Oh, no! I am not into alternative medicine at all! Was just debating with you :)

As I mentioned in an earlier post, I dislike it.

I suddenly have this image of Esqueleto in Nacho Libre...

Cool :) Sorry didn't realise your position.

So does this mean I win? :D

Why must everything be explained, measured and proved?

Surely you believe in love, the ultimate 'unmeasurable'? Or is that also a moneymaking scam from Hallmark?

Sorry, people only love people, because it feels nice to be loved, so it's do unto others and they will do you, in the hope you will keep doing unto them. Survival tactics.
