Hi,

So recently my friend went to a reflexologist and the lady pinpointed exactly what was wrong with her. She had an overactive thyroid and high cholestrol. She went for a blood test and turns out the woman was bang on the money.

I'm thinking of going for it myself. Has anyone been? What was your experience like? Know of anyone you can refer me to?

I've always wanted to go to an acupuncturer for the hell of it but I've never been able to find a genuine chinese traditional doctor to do it. All I see are some young poppies from beauty school who pretend to know what its about.

Yea that's what bothers me. I want someone who is experienced. Not some chicky fresh out of beauty school and still wet behind the ears.

Doesn't matter how old the "reflexologist" is when all they're doing is scamming you out of your hard earned cash. Reflexology has no scientific basis whatsoever (in fact the scientific studies I've read about it discredit it completely) and not even reflexologists themselves are able to explain what it is they do and why they claim it works.

Look, there's no doubting that it can help to relax a person, however it's no more effective medically than a massage is. Their claim that there is some unmeasurable force called qi which controls our bodies sounds about as much hogwash as any other fairy tale. Forces and energies are measurable yet qi (supposedly an energy and a force) is not - ergo it doesn't exist, ergo reflexology is absolute BS.

serqet - you seem like a fairly bright woman - don't be fooled by this quackery...

Two people I know where warned by separate reflexologists to expect diarrhea soon after their sessions and both experienced exactly what they where warned to expect.

@DJK - science can't answer everything. Just look at Riaan Cruywagen's hair for example.

its the same with that health shop stuff, i mean, its all just a lie!

There is a great piece by Billy Connelly where he talks about being involved in a car crash and having both his legs cut off in the crash, pulling himself out of the wreckage by his arms and propping himself up against the side of the road and screaming for a doctor. Someone shouts 'I'm a Doctor' runs over to him and rubs lavender oils his his ear lobes. He rolls his eyes and says, 'Effing homeopaths!'

Why don't you consider going on the SCIO machine?

Did they drink the complimentary coffee in the reception? :D

Cool. Expect the flu soon. If you get it, I'll send you a bill and call my service internetology, because we are all connected via secret unmeasurable forces, resonating from the internet, and the internet god told me all about this. You cannot disprove internetology, because science cannot answer everything.........yet. See the problem with this type of argument? It opens the door to believing everything and sundry on the basis that if it's some mystical, romantic notion, it just might possibly be true - and some people revel in that rubbish. Might as well strap a crystal to your forehead and await the landing of our alien forefathers...

They claim that there is some unmeasurable force called qi
Qi is not something out there that can be measured by science but is something one does, or does not do. IOW, it is not something apart from oneself, one doesn't 'have Qi' but one 'does Qi', and when one is 'doing Qi' there is no doubt that it exists.

Random waffle intended to bullsh1t people out of their money - well done. See this is the problem (one of many), not even the proponents of this scam can collectively agree on what qi and reflexology are...

Why must everything be explained, measured and proved?

Surely you believe in love, the ultimate 'unmeasurable'? Or is that also a moneymaking scam from Hallmark?

Why must everything be explained, measured and proved?

Because that's life. Anything in the physical realm is measurable to some extent. And if it isn't in the physical realm then it cannot have any effect on the physical (i.e. health)...

Yes, and just like any other emotion, it is controlled by the brain, but what makes it unique is that it is a collection of emotions, not one single emotion. Interesting, but still scientific...

So what is the difference between you spending money (flowers, gifts, etc) because you are in love with someone VERSUS another person spending money on reflex?

Serqet i would say go and do it...

I have never tried it but i know a few people who have and its worked for them...

To me some things don't have to be proven to work... and yes DJK we see your point... you're a crying baby cause you can't get anyone to see your point... so stop spamming threads and giving nothing....

Science is a work in progress. While I don't support these sorts of practices, I don't categorically deny that there might be something to them. And after all, if you've already tried the medical route without any luck, what have you got to lose in giving something else a try?

Love being real and reflexology being made up horse-tripe?

Sometimes I really do feel they should invoke the right to use the stupidity hammer on you. Re-read your post and try again, in English this time please. Otherwise have mommy double check it before posting more drivel. You're a rather disturbed little being if you believe that me disagreeing with reflexology and asking for some evidence contrary to the evidence abound that it is complete tripe, constitutes spamming...
