Refurbished / ex corperate laptops

Hi all,

My old laptop had just died.
I use it for maintaining equipment on old machinery.
The software dosent run on anything later than Xp Pro plus I need an original PCMCIA slot for a connection specific to the machines being maintained. A dual core, 2gig clock, couple of gig ram, and 160gig SATA hdd will work fine.

The only way out seems to be a refurbished / ex corperate laptop.
I've had a look around Gumtree and plenty seem to be available but wonder how many are really ex corp equipment and what the "refurbishment" actually entails ??

Can anyone suggest companies selling genuine refurbished / ex corperate equipment and possibly also companies to avoid.

Why not get a slightly newer PC? Buy an add-on PCMCIA (usb) device and run XP in virtual machine.

Or if you have a newer PC/laptop .... Do the rest?

What this means? "Microsoft Authorised Refurbisher".
It looks like MS is trying to make money again on the equipment which has valid licence sticker.
