I use my cellphone as a modem when sending email from Outlook on my laptop when I am out of the office. All was working well until about a month ago. I receive an email saying Relay Access Denied. I have called Vodacom Data Department but they were of no help. They said that the problem is not with them and that my Outlook is giving the problem. My computer was formatted and reinstalled yesterday. I still get the same email saying Relay Access Denied when I try to send emails. For some reason the same does not happen when I send emails from Outlook Express (not ideal for me to use Express). Vodacom has been of no help and I do not know what to do next? Can someone give me some advice?

Thank you!

PS: when i spoke to Vodacom the 1st time and explained the situation the technician asked me if my inbox was not maybe full? That did not make a lot of sense???

If you are receiving "Relay Denied" errors, ensure to check the box next to "My Server Requires Authentication" in your Outgoing SMTP preferences. This will enable "SMTP Authentication" and ensure you do not receive any "Relay Denied" errors.

It's not network related if you can send using express.

Check the settings between Outlook and Outlook Express. Maybe there are differences.

Thank you for you reply. I have checked the box and I still get the problem.

I imported the account from Outlook to Express. So all the settings are exactly the same. It still does not work through Outlook.

When I reply form Outlook on an email that was sent from someone at the Vodacom Data Department the email goes through. But all other email addresses of clients gives the Relay Access Denied message. Why would one message go through and the rest not. Surely that means that the setup of the email account was done correctly and the problem is something else?

WHat is the Outgoing mail server address in Outlook and in Express?
I assume as you're in the Vodacom 3G section its smtp.vodacom.co.za or similar?

i am having this exact same problem now but with telkom?? can anyone please assist me cause i was on the phone with these idiots for 70min and still i couldn't be helped...ffs!!!!

i am using pop3.telkomsa.net and for outgoing smtp.dsl.telkomsa.net

The SMTP for Vodacom is - smtp.vodacom.co.za or smtp.vodamail.co.za

Both work just fine, but you must enable authentication on SMTP.
