I got a tracker for my car. But now I want a remote kill switch to stop potential hijackers on their tracks before they get far. Yes, I'm paranoid but this is my first car & this is South Africa. Also, I intend on not losing it. Not anytime soon anyway.

I can see one problem if you decide to use a device that requires an internet connection. Usually the thieves use cellular signal jamming device so the tracking device in unable to send the location of the vehicle to the tracking company, thus making your device useless as well.
On a side note my mechanic advised to not install these aftermarket devices as the installers twist and insulate the wires rather than solder them together. He has found that after years the wires often loosen and the car might switch off in dangerous places.

Oh, that makes sense. I suppose it would be pointless to put it in the first place.
So what do you recommend then? Thing is, there's been a hive of hijackings in my area. So I'm trying to take the necessary precautions.

What are you going to do if they come back? Rather get insurance and give them what they want because is a car really worth getting killed?

This is my first car and it holds a lot of sentimental value to me, call me stupid but it does. I don't want to let people who believe that they are entitled to having it steal it from me without at least trying to protect it.

Just locate the fuel injection fuse, remove it and put it in your wallet when you park in unsafe places. The thieves won't think about that, they will just think you have a top anti hi-jack system installed.

As with all security systems, It's all about having a multi layered system that would confuse the thieves and eat into their precious time, one thing they don't have is time and if it takes too long chances are they will leave it and move on.

What car is it, VW Polo?

No, it's a Sandero Stepway Plus, Renault. Thanks for the tips I'll keep that in mind. As long as I give the anti-theft team enough time to locate the vehicle then it's worth a shot. I think.....

Thankfully the Renault is not the in thing with people still thinking of it as a troublesome French car, that counts in your favour.

Not a bad car to be honest. I'll have to see how it runs over the years but for now, it's making a good impression. The only thing that drives me nuts is that you have to open the bonnet from the left side of the car. Because it makes total sense to do that on a right-hand car

yeah and with a renault sooner or later its going to become a common thing to open the bonnet so i can imagine the frustration :p

It's not only the Renault, Ford Fiesta and the Figo as well, plus they put the petrol filler cap on the other side where visibility is obscured, irritates the hell out of me.

Fortunately my Corsa has everything on the right side, "exactly how the good Lord intended it to be"- Jeremy Clarkson.

It already exists. It's called key-less entry and start. Like Bluetooth for cars pre 2010, cars today are sold with this as an possible extra or as a included feature on higher-spec'ed models.

Go to the local sangoma who specialises in uthagathi zofa, never worry about criminals stealing your car again.

Get yourself a taser, a pressure switch and a hidden switch to disarm your invention. Put the taser and pressure switch under the drivers seat. Connect two wires to the taser and weave them into the seat or seat cover.
Now you connect your hidden safety switch and please don't forget it, after a few shots you might forget it and taser yourself out of your own car.
As soon someone gets to sit on the driver seat with the pressure switch armed without knowing of the hidden switch will be ejected.

If you really want to secure your car, a shotgun contraption under the driver seat will ensure that, but please never forget to disarm it.

Enjoy your cheap security.
