Removing tar and insect smears from bodywork?!

I noticed yesterday that I picked up some of those nasty tar splashes on the lower part of my driver and passenger side doors. I have no idea where they came from but as most of you know they're normally a b*tch to get off so what product(s) or solutions can you guys recommend for easily removing tar and insect guts from the paintwork without compromising the finish.

If you get to the tar quickly enough, wax usually works...

Try getting Sonax. That is one of the best waxes out there. I had some pics of a similar incident and the wax got rid of it

Get a Clay kit, normally sold at Builders Warehouse. Removing any dirt will be quick and easy. I use Meguiars but there are other brands too.

heard Mayo does it. if the tar is dry, then try a spot of diesel/petrol mix (60/40). Or i think you can actually buy tar remover for cars at game or midas.

Grab some Meguiar's Gold Class Bug & Tar Remover from Makro. Spray onto the offending gunk, leave to soak for 3-5 min, then carefully wipe off. Works like magic! Wash car as normal afterwards and it's highly recommended that you apply some wax.

Yoh, that sounds a leetle extreme IMO.

I'd go for something gentler to start off, like a dedicated Bug & Tar remover, then detailing clay, and lastly paraffin. If the mess is somehow still there, it's time for a professional opinion.

WD40 lubricant spray will remove tar and insect smears and will not harm the paint. Spray a small amount on a soft cloth or directly on the area and wipe of in gentle circular motions...it really works.

Something else that will work well is good old paraffin or diesel. Just wash with your normal soap after using it.

Bug and tar remover from builders.

OR you can use the glass cleaner from Meguairs or Sonax as well. Spray on directly before washing. Let it soak a bit and then spray off and wash as normal.

If the paint still feels uneven afterwards, Meguiars Rubbing Compund, then don't forget to apply some sort of polish afterwards, as these products remove the existing polish layer.
