Another new budget Renault is being considered for SA./

Renault Considering Kiger for SA

A new, affordable small SUV could be coming to SA. Is it a cross between a Kwid and a Triber (Kiger)?

Renault is considering another small or compact SUV to add to its current SA lineup. The current lineup includes the Triber, Captur and Duster. The Kiger is being built on the same platform as the Triber (CMF-A+) which is also shared with the upcoming Nissan Magnite. The Kiger will only be offered as a 5-seater as opposed to the Triber which can seat 7.

The engines for the new Kiger will be carried over from the Kwid meaning a naturally aspirated 1.0 petrol engine with 52 kW and 96 Nm and a 1.0 turbopetrol variant. Understanding is that the 1.0-litre turbopetrol will be updated with more power and torque for the Kiger and will eventually be introduced into Triber. Currently, the turbopetrol (which isn’t yet offered in SA) makes 74 kW and 160 Nm of torque. Figures for the version that will go under the bonnet of the Kiger are assumed to be 86 kW and 180 Nm, which makes it more in line with what competitors from Hyundai and VW are currently offering.

Not much is known about the interior yet as the car is only set to be launched in India during October 2020.

Laugh all you want, this is unfortunately the future for the masses in SA.

What masses? A kwid starts at R156k This new thing will for sure be more than that. Exactly which masses can afford this?
The bank needs to afford it, the bank makes sure you can afford it with a massive residual and a long payment term :P

We're closing in on 45% unemployment (officially - probably more unofficially). Even the most unethical bank wont touch our masses with a finance pole.

Not many, that is the sad part.
I see Wesbank is offering finance now up to 96 months on vehicles less than 2 years old without balloon. Alternatively 72 months with a 30% balloon.

I was shocked to see that the entry level new Golf 7.5 is R350k

To Renault's credit, their cars are very decent, it shows that they actually took time to design them, I like it.

New Renault Kiger revealed and locked in for SA launch later in 2021

The new Renault Kiger has been revealed in India and is scheduled to arrive in South Africa in the third quarter of 2021.

Previewed by a concept unwrapped as recently as November 2020, the new Kiger is set to take on the likes of the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Suzuki Vitara Brezza and (the closely related) Nissan Magnite.

Measuring 3 991 mm nose to tail and with a wheelbase of 2 500 mm, the new five-seater Kiger slots neatly into India's sub-four-metre class. The small crossover features a luggage compartment capable of swallowing a claimed 405 litres (expanding to 879 litres with the rear seats folded down), while ground clearance comes in at 205 mm with 16-inch wheels fitted.

In India, the new Kiger will be offered with a 74 kW/160 N.m turbocharged 1,0-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine (yes, just like the Magnite) driving the front wheels via either a five-speed manual gearbox or a continuously variable transmission (CVT). Interestingly, the Kiger will feature three driving modes: normal, eco and sports.

New Renault Kiger Revealed

Renault has revealed its new Kiger Compact SUV which is destined to reach South Africa later this year.

The production version of the Kiger has now been revealed and while it will primarily be offered in India, it’s also destined to reach South Africa in the third quarter of 2021.

The Kiger rivals the likes of the soon-to-be-launched Nissan Magnite and Suzuki Vitara Brezza as well as offerings such as the Hyundai Venue and forthcoming Kia Sonet.

The Kiger shares its CMF-A+ platform with the Renault Triber and Nissan Magnite and measures 3 991 mm long, 1 750 mm wide and 1 600 mm high with a wheelbase of 2 500 mm. Ground clearance is generous at 205 mm. These dimensions bode well for overall interior space and Renault claims 405 litres for the load bay which is useful.

Damn it's got steering mounted controls and quite a decent looking dash. The Triber is just very ulitarian in comparison.

Renault Kiger

The Renault Kiger is a brand new compact SUV designed and destined for India, before making its international debut. Attractively priced and with astonishing space for five occupants, this sturdy and compact SUV under 4m, strengthens Renault India's offering that already includes Kwid, Duster and Triber.

Renault Kiger depicts a very strong personality with its resolutely modern dynamic design, generously roomy modern interiors and suite of never seen before features. With a choice of two engines and transmission, it ha s everything it needs to appeal to Indian customers looking for a new and original compact SUV.

India - one of the most attractive markets

With the second largest population on the planet and high growth potential India is one of the most attractive markets in the world. The SUV market there has been growing steadily over the past few years, as is the case in many other countries. In 2015, SUVs accounted for 13% of the B segment. That figure has since doubled over the past five years and is set to increase to 34% in 2021.

Renault has always been particularly attentive to its customers, their needs and uses, and was quick to pick up on this growing demand. The brand has proved to be a real game changer in certain se gments, with the development of disruptive products such as the Kwid and Triber. Despite the challenging macro economic environment, Renault was continued to move forward and has established itself as the leading European brand in India.

Shamefully, I kinda like the look of this car. And I like the new face-lifted Kwids front end, not enough to buy one though. I'd consider this Kiger though to be fair.

Edit: it only comes in 1.0l - so noooit!

I saw something about a 1.0l turbo somewhere.

Yeah and the triber struggles, they can't say the fuel consumption is accurate, cause on a 35l tank I get 450km tops, mainly cause you've really got to push it to gain speed, especially up hills. My Clio on the other hand 40l gets me 550 to 800km depending on my driving.
