Got a lvl 9 Orc and lvl 6 Zealot.

Pit, havent done a dungeon yet.
They are few and generally dont give any good gear untill much later in the game, or so i have read.
Usually people do the Public Quests which is almsot like a dungeon out in the open where everyone can join in.
But yes it is more of a PVP fest with PVE filling the gaps, especially at higher levels.
I kinda enjoyed my very first PQ was suprised when the boss (hero mob) Came out of the forest knocking trees down and killing 2 people almost instantly took 9 of us in the end to drop it note we were all lvl 2-3 :)

Maybe its not WOW beater but i had enougth of WOW.

Ill be renewing as soon as i can (probably only after payday though:( ) as i am really enjoying the game.

Not to far into it as i must admit i had a bad case of alt-itis and have 3 characters im playing.

A lvl 12 Shadow master, lvl 10 iron breaker and a lvl 9 sword master.

Shadow warrior has just got to tier 2 so looking forward to some new stuff to explore.

PQ are fun but im used to the fact im cursed when it comes to rolls :(
I once rolled a 0001 - so yes even with my bonus i had no chance of winning anything :D

Do the people play the dungeons like they do in WoW ?
Are they actually grouping up for it as there is gear worth running the instances for ?

Or is it just a straight out PvP fest

1. There are dungeons and lairs in WAR. Dungeons are very rare compared to WoW. Think Onyxia's lair as a WAR lair, single boss, with a special requirement to get in... As Skurm stated in another thread, he did a lair where you needed 1 of each WAR class to be present, while others require you to sacrifice a party member to enter

2. Instances are so few and far apart, you get your gear via many different ways:

* Renown rewards, aka old school wow, as your rank increases you can buy better equipment... Renown is like honor
* Influence rewards, step into an area called a Public Quest, you dont even have to group, everyone in the PQ area automatically adds to the objective :D At the end of the PQ, a roll system appears and depending how much you've participated in the PQ, increases your chance of winning ;)
*Lairs, these usually drop a single item, but luckily have a 15min respawn timer.

3. No its not, but theres: Open RVR zones where there are quests, Scenarios (BG's) that can be joined when ever you want, Keeps - which bring siege weaponry (Rams, Burning Oil, Catapults, Balistas etc) now that adds a whole new depth of pvp ;)

WAR is primarily PVP... which was something i was partially afraid of. I've always played WoW, where i generally ignored PVP. Now you cant ignore the pvp, and if you don't enjoy PVP, I suggest sticking to WoW. Alternatively if you love the PVP, you can live in it... you can earn roughly the same amount of xp as you do from quests :o

I am renewing WAR, at the expense of cancelling WOW [i already canceled WOW] .

Main reason : WoW = been there done that, i'm max level, T5/6 geared , i've seen 90% of the end game content. There's no motivation to -play- WoW. I'm only repeating content. I don't think Wrath is enough of a "change" or "new game" to warrant me playing it on release [maybe one day in the future] , it IS only an expansion pack after all.

An important factor with WAR is the -dynamic- part with the RvR [capturing enemy cities/areas] which is in constant flux....means compared to WoW [which is basically STATIC] there' will always be a change in the "game world" when i log on. Imagine logging into WoW and Barrens is suddenly Alliance controlled (and it actually having real rewards/penalties)....that is the kind of potential in WAR....

WAR even with the grind and slow leveling pace (yes from lvl 20 it grinds to a halt) is STILL alot more "jump in and play" aka "casual" aka "i just want to do some stuff now and not play for 3 days" kinda feeling. WAR's "tier" approach makes the need to be max level null and void, if you outlevel a tier you can't go back. This means Mythic created nice little "pockets of end game" . So being lvl 11, 21, 31 provide the same amount of pleasure as being lvl 70 in WoW. I don't NEED to be lvl 70..in fact i have to hold back to make sure i do all the stuff in each Tier before leveling on.

Well there's definitely the typical 5-6 man dungeons, which is similar to the 5-mans/heroics in WoW. I haven't seen anything huge , but in the capital city there's 4 small dungeons [3+ bosses in each with loot] . It's effectively one dungeon , but it's split up in raising difficulty [4 "sections"] . Each section have mobs of increasing level.
We did the first section the other night [lvl 13 elites in WoW terms] , and the next section was lvl 15 elites and here we saw failmode coming and said we'll come back later.

Considering that in WoW, how many dungeons are there at lvl 15 to do? Or rather how many does most people bother doing? So taking that into account i'd say 1 5-man dungeon covering T2 [lvl 12-21] is plenty already ;). Especially if you take in account that a PQ is effectively a "public dungeon" with one boss , without the kill stealing and loot problems. The PQ system makes the need for instanced dungeons somewhat moot...

It's not that WoW is a bad product, by far not the case.

It's simply the age old saying. Too much of a good thing can be bad. You can't play just one game for 3, close to 4 years without starting to get seriously bored of it all.

And it's not just content, but gameplay, look and feel, etc. These are things that a new expansion can't really fix. The only slight saving grace that Wrath has, to me, is the new class, which might introduce some new gameplay elements and might prove to be a distraction enough to play WoW again for a bit. But even with all the new instances and raids, it's still going to be Warcraft. Just with extra 'stuff' to do.

WAR otoh is a completely new and different game and experience.

There are probably scores of people that have yet to get tired of WoW, and I can understand why they'll try WAR and just end up going back to WoW. There's still stuff for them to see and do and try, maybe. Maybe the dated engine doesn't get on their nerves yet, maybe the same old grind is still fun for them, maybe they still enjoy BG's and the arena, maybe they really want to see BT and Sunwell before Wrath, maybe they're still satisified by WoW's mechanics and all they really want is new content.

For some of us though, that is no longer enough.
