Hi all, has anyone have any good contacts or thoughts surrounding the renting of laptops for a year. With the price of a entry level i7 sitting at R13k I'm pursuing rather to rent it instead of buying. So is it a good idea? What are the pitfalls if any

Thanks

Unlikely you'll find a one-off rental for a private individual that doesn't cost a fortune.

I believe Takealot have been offering terms on some items, might be an option for you.

It honestly depends on what you need the computer for.

Both these guys lease at about R1k a month.

Looking at the economics of it, it only makes sense if you need the computers for quite a bit less than a year.
So if you need a laptop for a month or so.

The cost of renting a laptop for a year will approach the cost of buying it. You'd be better off buying a laptop with finance.

The reasoning behind renting a laptop is i can exchange it for a better laptop and not worry about warranty etc. This is for corporate environment so would be 10+ laptops...

Renting doesn't make financial sense in this scenario unless you only need them for a month or two.

I don't know what you guys use the laptops for but if it's for Windows, Office, emails. Then buy laptops with 8GB+ RAM the things will last at least 5 years+.

We have laptops second gen I3(about 6 - 7 years old) with 8GB of RAM that is still smooth as can be. Nothing stays fast without some maintenance every now and then.

Don't ever take laptops with 4GB RAM. It will be slow in a year.
