I am very disappointed with the service from dstv . there are always repeats and nothing worth watching anymore. To pay R690-00 per month is a complete waste of time , we south african are paying too much for dstv , cable is much cheaper in other countries. Unfortunately dstv seems to be a favorite of goverment and blocking viable competition from entering this country , the same goes for telecommunications (telkom) .

Dude, you are preaching to the Choir here.... a lot of us have already canceled our DSTV and are downloading what we want to watch from the Internet.
The only guys who are sticking with DSTV are those who absolutely cannot do without their sport.

I have a family that forces me to have it, if it was my choice I would have cancelled it long ago.

I find it's better if I look through Channels and PVR what I want to watch as apposed to switching it on and watching the scheduled programs that are showing.

If you add telkom line , adsl line rentals and isp, plus running costs of a pc 24/7 , pretty sure it costs more than DSTV?

We also PVR what we want to watch and catch up when we want to. Means when we do watch TV there is what we want to watch.

Cancelled DSTV on the 31st December last year already. Somehow we don't miss it at all.

You get to pick what to watch plus you can see shows months before they air on our screens.

try downgrading to compact at R260pm. p.s. this is not for sports lovers.

It's not live sports so it doesn't really matter when we see it.
People complain about repeats but the fact is we can't all watch tv at the same time and sometimes there is more than one interesting show on at the same time or sports. PVR is your friend. It gives you a bit of control over when you watch the shows you like.

I agree on the cost is insane, but i to this day canot understand why people complain about repeats, how much tv can you watch at once , hell even with a pVR you cant record everything, thats on they ahve to repaet stuff.
Anyway dude vote with your wallet and get uncapped - and the piratebay will be your best friend

I agree, I used to have mweb uncapped but the cost just outweighed the cost and convenience of DSTV.

Remove the telkom line bull and I and many people will be onboard.

The argument goes that if there were not so many repeats, the cost of subscriptions would go up. Maybe this is true

Just going now to watch an "Antiques Roadshow" that I missed but is being repeated for the 4th time this week. Thank goodness for repeats, I do not know what I would do without them...

DSTV is horribly expensive.

What we have at home is just an Easy View package (R20pm) which is pretty much just SABC1-3 and Etv - only because our regular reception is so crap and we are not allowed to make any adjustments/additions to antennas etc (complex rules..bleh)

Now, if the Mrs really wants to watch 7de Laan or whatever, she can. If I really have an undying urge to catch the evening news, no problem. For everything else, there's TPB (and NZB's - got everything installed and running last night :p ).

What is your Total adsl cost each month?

So this is what their reply was when I saw the increase ... I touched on various issues, but they focused on only one ...

Dear .........................

Thank you for your e-mail. We apologise for the delayed response.

The price increase is due to an increase in the cost of doing business. Where possible, we have kept it to a minimum. The DStv subscription fees are reviewed every year when the business plan is prepared. The decision to increase or not is determined once the business planning process is completed.

The channels selected for our mini Bouquet's are according to the rights and price agreements that MultiChoice was able to secure with the relevant channel suppliers. All our bouquets are pre-defined and fixed and you can not select your own channels or the channels that comprise the package.

MultiChoice appreciates that we have a vast spread of preferences in South Africa, therefore the necessary measures are taken to try and accommodate as many as possible. We are however, obligated to honour various rights, binding agreements and contractual obligations that restrict us in various areas.

Programme repeats are a global trend in all multi-channel environments. Worldwide audience research has shown that viewers rate repeat programming as very valuable, as they allow subscribers who would otherwise have missed the first showing to catch up. According to recent independent research, it was shown that our repeat patterns were amongst the lowest in the world.

MultiChoice does not produce nor create channels for the DStv bouquet. Our channels are purchased complete from the suppliers and are packaged into bouquets. MultiChoice works closely with channel suppliers to ensure that programming meets the quality standards required for a premium Pay-TV platform.

We encourage channel suppliers to spread the repeats as much as possible, but again they are limited by the license periods. The number of permissible repeats of a programme must play out within a certain fixed period of time. Furthermore, it is almost impossible for local and international suppliers to create a channel without a strategy of repeats. To attempt to do so would be very expensive, making the channel costs prohibitive to both MultiChoice and the subscriber.

Should you require any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Kind regards
