Replacement needed for S10

If you want a phone that is going to last you 4 years or more, Just buy an Iphone. No android will last you that long unfortunately and you will have to rinse and repeat every year if you buy another android. So pick your poison.

Anecdotal, but my S10e had a much longer lasting battery than my wife's iPhone XR. They were pretty much the same age. My S10e was still perfect after 3 years. I just upgraded because I could trade it in for R1k less than I bought it for 3 years ago.

If you compare our watches, then it gets much worse for the Apple.

As for suggesting a new phone - my wife is very happy with the Samsung A52s 5G. I'm actually surprised. This coming from someone who loved Apple and didn't like Android. She only moved to get a decent smartwatch.
I'm very happy with the vanilla S12. It is actually very slightly too large and sometimes pokes me in the hip when I sit with it in my jeans pocket.

One more thing - from the last year or so on my S10e I started trying to recharge my devices at around 30% battery left. I'm pretty sure that makes a big difference to how long it lasts and a must if you want devices to last 5 years.

Ended up going with the Xiaomi 12. The battery is decent, dropped only 3% overnight. Charges to full in about 30 minutes.

It's also a powerhouse, well built and will get 3 years of OS updates. Can highly recommend over an S22+ for anyone looking for similar specs but not the price. It actually outperforms it in most benchmarks too...

Narrowed it down a bit.

Xiaomi 12:
- No IP rating. 3 years of OS updates.

Honor Magic 4 Pro:
- No gorilla glass. 2 years of OS updates.

Not sure which one would make for a better long term option...
I went from S10e to Oppo Reno5...... Wont go back to Samsung again

Oh and a very cool feature that hasn't been publicised much, it comes with an IR blaster that you can use to control all manner of devices...

What contract did you get it on?

That ecosystem is the only one that will last you, maybe its time to start considering it, I am still yet to witness an android phone lasting that long. My previous iphone 6s lasted me 4 years , only reason i upgraded is because it got stolen.
I used my Samsung S8 for 5 years and replaced it with a S22 just because I wanted to and not because I had to.

I have been using an Ipad for years and it is the best thing since sliced bread but the same cannot be said for the iPhone. I threw my first one against the wall years ago and just a couple of months ago I wanted to share a file with a friend with an iPhone. Needless to say, that was impossible because IOS does not have things like Quick Share or Nearby Share.

Lastly, my Android phone has a perfect Afrikaans interface and even allows me to speak to Google Assist in Afrikaans. Apple would rather close shop than admit that there are other languages in this world apart from English.

OMG 36 months contract on a Xiaomi Fixme. Hope it lasts.
Don't care, R590 is peanuts. Will probably pay it off next year. If anything happens then insurance will pay out.

Right now I'd rather take the R20k and use it towards expanding my solar setup. That's higher priority given the power issues this year...
