Replacement needed for S10

Not heavy gaming, but a bit of Hearthstone here and there, and in the evenings before bed.

I do use my phone a lot during the day, with a lot of screen time. Browsing, emails, Teams meetings etc. so battery life is important but less of an issue with the fast charging Xiaomi and Honor above.

But I do enjoy having a high-ish end spec. Just for the piece of mind knowing that whatever I throw at it, it's not going to bog down...
In that case, a Xiaomi would be great. I love the battery life.

A heavy day , and it's about 20% at night. If not, at least 1.5 days on a single charge sometimes 40 hours.

If Ieave my Nokia connected to WiFi and kids don't use it, the phone (after 4 years) runs for a week!

iOS isn’t for everyone.
Same can be said for Android...

I literally am lost when I have for some bizarre reason need to use something like a Samsung phone. I went from Nokia's Symbian OS to my first Apple (iPhone 4) many years ago and I am confused when using an Android phone. Maybe i am just too old to want to learn and get used to Android, but I am happy and confident with Apple's IOS.

What would all you wise folks suggest?

My S10 is on it's last legs. Thought I would get 4 years out of it, but my battery only lasts until 4pm, even after replacing it. I'm convinced that Samsung is pushing dodgy updates to force an upgrade :/

In not going to fork out R10k+ upfront on a phone so it needs to be on contract. Budget is R500-R600 max, don't care about minutes and data, it's going to be a throwaway sim.

Thanks!
where did you get the replacement battery from?

for R500-600 I would go with iPhone(in 2022 iPhones are great budget phones) >800 then a Galaxy S/Z.Those that are saying only iphones last for more than 4 years, I'm not so sure about that(apple throttles the device through firmware, the battery will degrade after 2 years in some cases before because iphones are always connected to chargers), but in all fairness, they do have crappy battery life out the box.

Have you tried a factory data reset?

I have a samsung in my pocket right this minute and have also been seriously considering a move to iphone recently.

That or CAT.

Yep, tried that to no avail. It's manageable when the phone is "clean", but as soon as you start installing your apps it's back to being dead by 4pm.

And it's not even dodgy apps, just the stuff we all have - Company Portal and Office (for work), TAL, MrD, Checkers, AirBnb etc., just normal things...

My last Samsung charging port died around 4 months ago so real mission to get it to charge.

I am now using my wife's old samsung.
It's charge mostly lasts till I get home but if I let it discharge to below 40% it's battery drops faster and faster till it hits zero (loses that 40% in around 20 minutes).

If I let it go below 30% plugging it in will first discharge the phone to 0% in around 2 minutes for every 10% charge till it turns off then it will be another 5 minutes and it will start charging again.

Last Samsung I had that lasted to the end of warranty was my S7Edge and then only because of the two free screen repairs so yea, time to break out of my Samsung comfort zone.

Planning on a CAT S62Pro next mainly because it is rugged, has a huge battery and I think FLIR will come in handy for bee keeping.

Same here, Android confuses me so much, i have a brain freeze every time i have to use one, feels like you need a PHD if you want to operate android. IOS is simple and straight forward, so that is what i will stick with.

Samsung store...
then you should take it back to them and get it fixed, could be a defective battery or the shop hit you down, also turn off voLTE and if you on Telkom consider switching networks because they still have not fixed their idle drain.

I have never felt like any of my Iphones are being throttled, I have read about this on the interwebs but it hasnt happened to me so its just a myth, Also which Iphone have you used in the last 4 years that has crap battery life? I believe Apple is currently ahead of everyone else right now in terms of battery life, i could be wrong.

Why switch off voLTE?

my last main iphone was the xs I picked up in 2018 and then traded in for the s10+ in April 2019.I have on occasion used a iPhone 11, the battery is good but thats due to the lower-res screen and ios aggressive background management and to some extent the A-series chip.Yes,apple being the "battery champ" applies only to the pro max's.Also I would take YouTubers coverage on the iPhone with a grain of salt because their coverage was prior to Apple's disclosure of their 120hz bug. Where 3rd party apps were running in 60hz instead of 120hz.On average the pro max will give you 2-3 hours more screen-on time.

Iphones have had great battery life since the Xr/11, Yes the pros have better battery life but the non pros are still good too. The XS had terrible battery life. I still dont see any equivalent android beating Iphone right now. But lets leave it and avoid derailing the thread.

it cant be a myth if Apple has publically acknowledged it, and has had to pay customers in the states, moreover the EU is slated to fine Apple. Also, its Apple they always do these shady things to their customers.

yeah, the bad battery life and the weak modem were the xs's Achilles heel, it's a pity I really loved the design of that phone, in my opinion, it's better than the pro series design.

Same here. Far too comfortable with iOS. Couldn't pay me to use an Android phone again.
