i believe there is a limit as to what drive can be fitted - any ideas 2012 mbp 15"
also any idea who in the country has stock of the caddy and best price - not going to bother about importing one to save a few bucks.

lastly - the best ssd
the machine currently has a crucial (last year or so), no problems with it - is there any particular drive to go for or avoid ?

I did that a while ago when I was unfortunate enough to have a macbook...
Got the caddy from bidorbuy, was nice and cheap and used an OCZ SSD which was perfect.
Its a really easy job to do and only takes a few mins.

this seems like a good price

R4000
500GB ssd, incl caddy & labour

That's actually not too bad, considering it includes the caddy – and you would presumably have some sort of a warranty through Digicape if something goes south. Wootware has a Crucial MX100 512gb for R3300.00, so that's pretty close.

Importing a caddy definitely cheaper than going via BoB or similar – but then there's the schlepp of waiting, customs, and what do you do if it arrives with a few screws or something missing... Popping an SSD in will make that machine feel like a new one.

yea, that is the whole thing - job done same day - no waiting for imports and and other odd issues.
it's main drive is already an ssd drive, but just adding another and tossing the optic drive

Sorry to bring up an old thread but can someone suggest the best caddy to go for price wise? I currently have a macbook pro 2012 with a 256GB SSD installed and now want to replace the optical drive with a 1TB HDD.

Ja. I ordered a OWC one through Amazon UK, and had a friend bring it over. I think there were OWC's on BoB a while back - but they are very pricey. Far cheaper to import yourself. Digicape might do it in-house, but not sure.
