Hey guys
I need opinions/reviews.

I am currently hosting with Hetzner. I am very happy with the service they have provided. Unfortunately I need to re look my expenses and I am tempted to find myself a new host.

I have found:
gridhost
amplehosting
elitehosting

Any of you have good or bad experiences you would like to share?
I have used Webafrica before and won't go back there. They were very disappointing on a few occasions.

Please help :)

Out of those 3 I would go with elite hosting as there uptime is good and support excellent

See what worries me is that you only pretty much deal with Jason (the owner) what if something happens to him? Even the invoice shows his personal bank account details...not a business account.
Maybe I am paranoid, its just that I depend a lot on my websites for my business. I cant afford downtime let alone if somebody disappeared overnight with my money and domains.

Yeah i didnt know that PM him and ask him as I think they have been in business for a while so they should have a company bank account and possibly more than one guy working there though

I spoke to him in chat and he invited a guy called "Marius" into the chat. But that could also be a spook.
There is no telephonic support. They do seem to be in business for some time though.

Yeah I agree so all support is via email ? I must say they are very well priced but one needs assurance that your sites are safe and domains are safe

I manage all my domains myself via co.za and link them to my whm with my current web hosting provider this works quite well for me although they only offer email support but they for me are very reliable, and the other thing is there servers are in texas, so in that case you might as well go with host gator

Out of my personal experience though what i have heard of gridhost and amplehosting i wouldnt go with them, i can be wrong though

There is no telephone number for elitehost....
I liked the support I got from gridhost...i called and emailed to see their response time etc. They impressed me. WHat annoys me with them is the R25 domain transfer fee they charge. I have never paid for a domain to be transferred.
It is gonna cost me quite a bit to transfer all my domains. :(

I wish Hetzner was a little bit cheaper!

Try the free pink reseller hosting from Cybersmart!

In order to subscribe for the FREE Pink reseller package :
a) You need to have a minimum of 10 active domains/websites setup on your reseller account within 6 months of subscribing If you fail to meet this criteria you will be moved onto the green reseller package

In order to subscribe for the FREE Pink Plus reseller package :
a) You need to have a minimum of 50 active domains/websites setup on your reseller account within 6 months of subscribing If you fail to meet this criteria you will be moved onto the green reseller package

Hmmm sounds like a waste of time they might as well just charge something as they properly want you to register domains through them and blah blah i dont think thats such a great idea, although i know cybersmart has been in the game for quite some time now

As tempting as it might be to anybody... I am so scared that a company like that will change their mind over night and then all of a sudden you get slapped with a huge bill...I just don't believe that anything in life is for free.

All the good stuff in live comes at a cost

Hello PierreK,

As per our telephonic conversation I have discussed your concerns as follows:

See what worries me is that you only pretty much deal with Jason (the owner) what if something happens to him? Even the invoice shows his personal bank account details...not a business account.

We are still waiting on CIPC to do our company registration, they are very back logged at the moment. We have been in the hosting business for 6 years (since 2005), and only have plans for expansion. Our helpdesk is monitored 24/7, responses are usually very fast. Our view is that if support is good over ticket system/email/live chat then we find no reason to offer phone support, maybe in the future though.

We also do server extensive monitoring via Pingdom and also our own internal Nagios/Icinga based system.

Marius has the same involvement in Elitehost as me, we are business partners. We also have another L3 technician and are looking to employ additional support personnel in the near future as soon as the demand is there.

Thanx Jason
Once again I did notr mean any disrespect by discussing it here on the forum. These are my concerns only. No brandbashing intended.
I do appreciate your phone call today. Thank you for taking the time to chat and give your side of the story. I respect and appreciate that.

Appreciate your 2c ;)

I don't like to give companies a bad rep, but I was with AmpleHosting for about 2 years (Reseller hosting). I pad all of my bills, domain registrations and everything was done through them at that time. One day, one of my clients calls and asks why his website says suspended. I had just paid AmpleHosting my monthly fee 5 days prior to this happening.

Turns out, there was some mystical invoice I hadn't paid after they "sent" several reminders including a "final warning". I never received or was in any way notified that I had any invoice due. They wouldn't reconnect me until the payment reflected on their account.

Cancelled there and then and me and my clients have all been happy since.

I came from Ample Hosting's Reseller to EliteHosts Reseller Package.

The speed on Ample's Servers were just terrible. Only reason I moved, as it just wasn't up to scratch anymore.

I love the support from Elite Host. I don't see why they need telephonic support, if I've never waited more than 30 seconds for someone to reply via their IM System. Had an issue today with a banned IP due to stupid Filezilla. Not a minute and it was fixed. Telephones are so a way of the past. I prefer good IM Support over it anyday, and don't forget, it's free....

PS. I've also spoken to someone else there that wasn't Jason or Marius.
