"Reserve" tank

I think in e30 BMWs there is a seperate reserve tank behind the back seat, infact I am certain there is a seperate reserve tank behind the seat.

Definitely not..

I've stripped 2 e30's in my younger days.. 1 tank.

No.. that is one tank, and its shaped like that to fit over the drivetrain in the vehicle.

Thank goodness the voice of sanity!! :D

When it comes to e30's... I'm the voice of sanity tinged with massive amounts of bias... I wants to get me another one so that I can play with it again.. I love the car.

There is 1 tank dude....

TRUST me.. I've stripped 2 e30's back to the bare shell to respray them and rebuild the drive train. Its underneath the back seat, and it straddles the propshaft.

How I wish that was one tank, then rinsing it would have been a lot easier. Alas it was two tanks in one assembly.

About the rumoured 3rd one behind the rear seat, cannot confirm that. Only worked on one E30 that we had a student car a decade ago.

Where behind the back seat?

It is literally behind the back seat, I would have thought someone such as yourself thats so knowledgeable on cars would have known this, Rouxenator even confirmed this so I'm not sure how ToxicBunny stripped those two e30s that he had.

I've owned atleast 4 e30s and stripped one and seen the tank in all of them. I even just called my friend to have a look at my car (stored in his workshop) and he confirmed it, and he works on BMWs for a living.

yes it is original equipment standard fitted off the showroom floor I don't know how else to emphasise this

It might have been on specific models..

On the E30 316i and 318i models it was not standard.

I'm also wondering about the 3rd tank. First time I heard about it was when we took our student car E30 to have a Sony CD-Changer installed. We wanted it in the boot on the back of the rear seat but the installer said no that is a fuel tank. This was in 2000. When we cleaned out the tanks we did not bother with the "3rd tank" cause we already had enough issues with the two-in-one tank pictures earlier.

Facelift 325i, full leather interior with sunroof.

Chuckle at the one-tank discussion.

My R0.02:

Interconnected doesn't make it all one tank.
I have two 2500 litre water tanks behind the garage, interconnected.
Still two tanks.
But one reservoir.

it is clear Fazda is convinced there is no tank behind the seat, so I will stop at this point. Beyond actually posting pictures its clear he is unwilling to change his position.

We are talking in the context of how the car sees it.

So yes, the correct term would be reservoir

I suggest the discussion turn to what "behind the backseat" means exactly. We might well find a resolution.

:p

even if I did take a picture of the tank, they would argue its not a tank and part of the body work or some ridiculous reply as seen here. No point continuing further, if they wish to believe theres no tank behind the seat then I'm not going to bother any further trying to convince them otherwise.
