"Reserve" tank

I showed you a reference where the guy specifically said "50l under the seat, 20l behind the seat"- note how nobody actually disagreed with that statement.

That guy I know personally and he has owned and worked on many e30s. If you actually follow his threads on that forum you will gather he is quite well informed about everything e30.

But instead you chose to ignore it, that to me suggests you look at things only to prove your point and ignore things which don't.

Hehe.

Found these:

How to replace the fuel tank

E30 Zone said:
All E30s have their fuel tanks mounted under the rear seat bench. However, a number of tanks were fitted to the range depending on age, engine size and body style.

The standard E30 tank is a 55L unit, with the fuel pump and a level sender screwed into the top and accessible under the rear seats. For Tourings and facelift M20-engined cars a larger 63L tank was fitted. These two tanks are interchangeable.

uh its porbably 900km

i think the e30s had extra tanks for jet fuel

not for flying saturn but for racing

Uh Berlin to Warsaw is 570km. Any car can do that. Even Hitler did it in one tank in his Beetle.

= 70l

Every single bit of factory specifications on the E30 indicate either 55 or 62 litre fuel tanks, indicating that the auxiliary tank is after-market and not factory-fitted.

From what I've gathered searching further, and in-line with abzo's first link, you do get a BMW auxiliary fuel tank but it is not a factory-fitted standard item, very much aftermarket. Incredibly rare item judging by the responses in forums where it is mentioned.

Agreed...

Very definitely looks like a non-standard (on the normal models) item. It does seem like it might have been standard on the M3, but I can't be 100% sure about it.

Still, as an impartial observer of this debate, I don't think irrefutable evidence has been presented by anyone. Rouxenator's pic is intriguing. The popcorn is still warm.

Rouxenators picture is of a bog standard 55l fuel tank for a BMW e30 which is located underneath the back seat. It is 2 compartments due to it having to straddle the propshaft.

If I had taken photos of me stripping the e30's I would have posted them here, but it was a good 15 years ago and I didn't have a decent digital camera at that point.

all i know its apparently bad to let your tank go down so low as you will be taking all the sediments into the engine.

Thats what everyone says to me ....

The e30 BMW was an amazing car my dad had a 318i back in the day when they were new that car is still going (not with us anymore). I suspect it will outlast my e39 2003 525i they dont make cars like that anymore

You going on that? Someone from another forum that said there is a tank behind the seat?

70l is NOT standard.

But he has photos... which he won't show us, cos we won't believe him....

This is what I did this morning.

I called Auto Atlantic (021 402 7700 ), an agent of BMW, I asked to be put through to spares and asked them if there is a reserve tank behind the seat of an e30 and they confirmed it- standard OEM product fitted.

You are welcome to call and confirm this, but beyond that if you want to discredit the agents of BMW as well then I doubt pictures will do anything to convince you.

Ok, we were all wrong and you are most epic and knowledgeable on BMW's so we all conced.....

Actually no, fsck it, it is not a standard OEM fitted part... 1989 BMW E30 318is didn't have one, 1991 E30 316 didn't have one...
