[Resolved] - Cool Ideas billing screw-up - Back charging me

OP thought he had gotten away with higherspeeds at lower cost

I don't see that being explicitly the case. That's an assumption on your part.

Well op should post his download usage over these last few months. Its easy to see the difference in the 2 speeds.

touch7 did you know your speeds were still above the package you payed for.

If you did and didn't let them know, it is nice and fair of Cool Ideas to let you pay it off.

If you didn't know about it for some reason, you will need to explain, then the loss is on CI.

So dear OP, in face of the allegations made here, did you notice a drop in speed? Or is it possible to not notice this i.e. a case of where you don't have access to the ONT's web interface to see stuff. I am asking because I've never been fortunate to get FTTH.

To me it sounds like the ISP didn't notify the carrier (Vumatel) to change the speed on the line, and you didn't notice it because I recently learnt (correct me if I am wrong) that the ONT at the client's premises cannot be accessed by the user and remains the property of the fibre provider

It is irrelevant whether the end user was aware or not aware. The end user is not required to even use the service personally. He is legally entitled to have his family or colleagues use the service while he might be entirely absent. The attempt to back bill the end user is unethical in the extreme. Even Multichoice would not go down that road.

Yet the medical aids do it often... if you decide to tell them to GFY in the middle of the year.

I didn't see any difference in my streaming when it was increased from 10mbps to 40mbps. Only place I really see a difference in my errr linux torrents. The difference might also be noticeable when one has multiple users streaming and such over the same link

Besides, even if (hypothetically) one did suspect something, any concerns would be quickly laid to rest by logging into the service providers portal and seeing that their bill matches their package selection. Duh.

I concur, and with specific HTTP downloads.

Ahhh, the MyBB flavour of the month. Waiting for the next one. :crylaugh:

Not taking sides here, but I check my speeds regularly. I'm sure most people have speedtest (or similar) on their phones.

Personally, I do think one should have noticed that speeds stayed the same after ostensibly dropping 400%.

Having said that, it's still CI's stuff up and OP should not have to pay for it.

Maybe though just a post in the normal queries thread, instead of a whole accusatory thread before trying to get it resolved?

Hmmm, I'm not so sure, hey.
I think the opposite is probably true -in my experience, at least.
Most "normal" people don't check their speeds or even know how.
Remember not everyone is a * "techie"... being on MyBB or around other "techies", it's quite easy to forget this.
(I'm totally guilty of this myself :) )

* Using the term loosely, of course, but you know what I mean.

Also true:D

PBCool - Will PM you in a while.

Thanks a lot guys, there is a lot of good advice and some odd ones. Some people say I was stealing in a way and that is not true. I'm not playing a blame game here.

Just to be clear, I like CISP and have always had a great service from them and I like how quickly they resolve problems.

I don't remember when last I logged in to the Vuma portal, when I moved down to a lower package, I remember I used their portal. I'll have to go read the exchange I had with them. I don't log in to the CISP portal often since they email me a statement about having debited my account and as long as my internet is working, that's the end of it.

Look at it like this, you move out of an apartment and then 3 months later you get a bill about a waterleak and since you're the last person that stayed there, this bill would have to be paid by you. This waterleak is not even in the apartment you stayed in but on the pipe connected to your apartment. I feel like I should have been told in February that I had not logged in to Vumatel portal and changed it there. And I think if I had to change now to a package higher than 100/100. I would probably go to the CISP portal and order a new service there without logging into Vumatel. I haven't logged in to Vumatel since I signed up with CISP.

But it's fine, I'll PM PBCool and have a chat with him/her.

And everyone saying that I should have noticed the difference, from my knowledge, I should be able to stream 1080p videos without a problem on 20mbps. I have never used torrents before and don't have a client that does so.

Edit:
The largest file I download are mac updates and that's when their 4 gig. And we all know that update takes 30 minutes. Other than that, I just watch twitch streams, youtube and anime. And... I'm one of those that have never watched a single episode of Game of thrones.

Every monthly statement I have since January says R799, except the ones where tax was raised by 1%. But I'll chat with PBCool. Thanks for the advice.
