I have ripped over a 100 gig worth of CD's to flac format. I have used different programs, and did not pay attention to the structure/naming conventions used. :(

Now I want to restructure the collection as follows:

Single Directory: music containing -》 directory artist containing directory -》 Album name containing track names.

There a program out there that can read the tags and create the above structue for me or am I going to have to manually do this.

Program, blog or thread please.

Take a backup. Every automated music organizer I have ever tried has cocked it up royally. iTunes was the worst. Manual is the only way IMHO.

Manually - then I might as well buy a second DVD drive, stack 683 CD's next to the computer and rip from scratch ...

Hate iTunes with a vengeance ... :(

Mp3tag allows you to view the changes before saving it (apply). You can then make manual changes if required before applying them.

Have downloaded it, about to head out for work, will install and check out later this evening. Thanks

Reconvert to lossless mp4 and import to Itunes.

Sheesh!!!

I just remembered, that motherboard only has 2x SATA connectors :(

Boot Linux of a USB Memory stick, and save to a SAMBA share on my Wife's box - could work.

Headphones are what I use to listen to my music - think there is also a "Headphones" that is a SABNZBD plugin ...

Or you can get the stand alone install here and use its import function to rename and move your libraries. It might take some renaming of the existing folders but it works.

Just note that Mp3tag is Windows software. The Linux equivalent is Puddletag. Another good option is MusicBrainz Picard.

This.

I have also deleted music from my folder that I know I won't listen to ever again. This saves a lot of time.

Try to rename as many of the songs as possible manually then dump it in FileBot, run the query and if it comes back with the names that you are looking for then rename it.

All my music is in one folder. I have yet to sort out my Rock folder.

Mediamonkey is very good for transferring your music to a pre-defined directory structure. This is unfortunately Windows only. It is one of the most powerful programs available for organizing your music, which means that it can mess things up in a bigger way than most if you make a mistake. As the others have already said you should work off a backup copy.

If you have just ripped all this music than there is probably a lot of the tagging that needs sorting out before you change the directory structure based on the tags. MusicBrainz Picard is good at sorting out large libraries.

And make sure that the "Album Artist" field is populated for your compilation albums or there will be a mess when you move things.
